i7 2600k, lowest Vcore for minimum heat?

I have a QX9650 with 1.075v Vcore at stock speed. It runs cool that I turned off the CPU fan.

Does any one do this on their 2600K? If so what is lowest Vcore for your CPU? I don't plan to OC 2600k at this time.

Thanks.

I dont know if this is relevant or correct but I have all the power savings options turned on for my 2500k.

When idle my processor downclocks to 1.6Ghz and my voltages are shown to be ~1V. Sometimes it's a bit lower like 0.95V.

I do something similar to you and have the fan automatically turn off or slow down as the CPU temperature drops low enough. My cpu fan turns off once the CPU temp gets to about 40-45C. Makes for an amazingly quiet system

Thanks, I will download CPUINFO and check Vcore tonight.

But, how can you turn off fan completely? It depend on board/BIOS?

My i3-530 (running 2.93Ghz - stock), I currently have undervolted to 1.01v from it's default 1.175v. It’s the same 0.32 fab process as SB, although SB can run a little faster at the same voltage judging by what I've seen them do in overclocked forums.

If you turned off the TB (Turbo-boost) you could probably run the CPU at its default 3.4Ghz down around as low as 1.01-1.03v. Since the 2600K runs as high as 3.8Ghz with TB on you may need a little higher vcore than that if you don't turn TB off.

You'll have to experiment by lowering the vcore and running a stability program like Prime95, then bumping up the voltage a little above its lowest stable vcore for a little safety factor.

ever think about simply unplugging the fan? :p

although to run fanless I'd assume the OP is running a sizable heatsink
