Hi...

Which one is really better??
An i7 quad core 1.66 Ghz or a core2duo 2.2 Ghz processor..

Can someone throw light on how this Ghz will matter..??

Moving to the CPUs forum.

I believe the OP is talking about mobile parts.

The mobile i7 is a good deal better than a 2.2ghz core 2, though how much would depend on which core2 we are talking about.

An i7 @ 1.66ghz is about the same as a C2Q at 2.2; you do the math. :)

I don't know the turbo levels of the i7 mobile, but it should be pretty decent in programs designed for 1-2 cores as well.

I want to know if Ghz(frequency) part of the processor really matters or how do it effect the speed.?

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-720QM Processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB)
&
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T6600 (2.2GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)

Which one is better to go..? Please advise.

HP pavillion is offering i7 1.66 Ghz/ i8 on some of its high-end machines...

it does matter, but there are other factors.

for instance number of cores, whether it has HyperThreading or not (which i7 has but C2D does not), there is also the IPC factor which basically means how much the core is getting done each cycle (IPC = Instructions Per Clock) which is gerater in the i7.

i7 coupled with Windows 7 has a better battery life on mobile computers and you should consider that as well when buying.

its not just down to M3g@|-|urTz (megahertz for non geeks ;) ), when buying a computer, and especially a mobile one there are other factors to consider.

you should search around Anandtech.com for articles about mobile performance, there are some good comparisons there.

The mobile Core i7 720QM turbo mode goes up to 2.8GHz. Thus, if your software does not use many threads/cores, then huge win based on high turbo speeds (2.8GHz with 1 core, 2.4GHz with two cores). If your software does use many threads/cores, then huge win (quad core with HyperThreading). I'm not sure a 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo has any benefit at all over a 720QM, unless it was cheaper.
