I5 closed into Oregon

They must have gotten a load of snow in northern California. There's a 150 mile stretch of I5 that is closed from shasta county in California all the way to the Oregon border. Kinda sucks for travelers. They better go find a pub and have a

Whoa... checking my local news... closed from Redding, CA to Ashland, OR with more than 100 motorists stuck at the bottom of Siskiyou Pass just 1 mile into Oregon.
That's desolate mountain country, folks... not a lot of pubs in the area.

Even if you could take 1, the passes between the valleys and the coast in Oregon are pretty ugly.

One problem: the 1 doesn't go into Oregon. The 101 does. (Looks at map) You could take 299 west out of Redding to Eureka, then north on the 101 to Crescent City (the famous Redwood Hwy), and then take the 199 to Grants Pass. It would be freakin insane in the snow and would add many, many hours to the drive.

My GF and I were supposed to drive down to Sacramento to visit her family for Christmas this year. If we had gone, we'd be driving back around now. I'm really glad we decided not to go 2 weeks ago.
