i5 760 or i7 860

Hey All:

I am upgrading from my C2D E6550 and am thinking of either getting a i5 760 or i7 860. Given the ease with which the former can be OC'ed, I had figured it best to save the $50 difference but am unsure whether the i7's inclusion of hyper-threading is significant enough such that I should purchase it over the i5.

I'd greatly appreciate any insight or input you all might be able to offer.

Hyperthreading is more for non-game, highly threaded situations. If you just want to game then the i5 is enough--and you may be able to save money on the mobo, too! I would have gotten the i5-760 myself, but it wound up being cheaper to get a 1055T + HSF and reuse my mobo and RAM, with plans to upgrade to a new mobo in a year or two and re-use my 1055T until it isn't good enough anymore.

If you can wait for Sandy Bridge CPUs, though, that is even better and should be coming out in ~3 months.

760 is the better value. Spend the extra $50 towards an aftermarket cooler.
