i5-750 & Turbo Boost question¿

Hi,

I have a i5-750 (stock cooling) running on a Gigabyte P55-UD3.

The setup is currently running on stock volts (not auto) @ 3.2Ghz (160x20) with Turbo Boost (mutli ranging from x21 to x24) and all power saving features enabled.

Although the setup is stable (not stress tested) it means that my RAM is running at 1600Mhz (160x10) whilst it is rated at 2133Mhz.

I was hoping to be able to change my overclock to 3.2Ghz (200x16) and still keep the Turbo Boost functionality (multi ranging from x17 to x20) in order to get the RAM running at 2000Mhz.

Alas setting the multi to x16 (whilst still keeping the bclk @ 160 for testing) seems to disable the Turbo Boost functionality (although it still shows enabled in the bios).

My question is this. Is Turbo Boost only able to function at a stock mutli (in this case x20) or is it a limitation of my board?

Any information regarding this matter will be greatly appreciated :)

You should be able to change the RAM multiplier without affecting turbo boost. And yes, once you set a multiplier yourself turbo boost ceases to function.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

The RAM multi is already at x10, which is the max for the i5-750 (as far as I understand).

Thus my only option to increase the RAM speed at this point is taking the bclk up.

Forget about Turbo.

OC it normally to something like 18/19x200.

Keep in mind you could also tighten timings up @ DDR3-1600.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I will look into a 18/19x200 setup once I acquire a new cooler. Still running stock cooling at the moment.

To enable Turbo for the i5 750, the multiplier has to be set to 20. This is not a limitation of your board. For i7 860s, the multiplier would need to be set at 21.

I believe the other requirements are to have Turbo and C1E enabled. You may also have to have the C-states enabled.

Thanks for the confirmation. Thus, Turbo only at stock multi :(
