i5 4690K Voltage and Temperature

Hyper 212 Evo (air cooler).
MSI Z97 PC Mate motherboard.
16 GB Mushkin 1600
Corsair 600M PUS

Reading OC guides on the net, it looks like the CPU voltage should not exceed 1.3 V and Core temperature(s) should not exceed 80 Deg C.

I got an OC of 4.5 GHz at 1.275 V core voltage (1.900 VCCIN, Ring multiplier = 41).
Idle = 28-29 Deg C
Load = 77 Deg C (Prime 95 26.6 with small fft's and Real Temp)

Are these settings good?
I was stable at 4.4 GHz and 1.200 Vcore with 72 Deg C max temps, and am thinking of going back there to get the 5 degrees less in temperature for the loss of 0.1 GHz.
What do you think? Should I go back, or stay at 4.5 GHz?

The PC is up in a loft that can get warm if the AC is not on, but testing was done around 22-23 Deg C ambient temp, but it can get up to 27 degrees up there.

I'll be mostly gaming and doing some light video editing, so I doubt that I'll ever hit maximum temps during daily use.

BTW, I was also stable at 4.6 GHz at 1.275 V, but temperatures were creeping over 80 Deg C.

Did you try going lower than 1.275V @ 4.5?

77C might be on the warm side if your ambient temperatures rise a bit, but I agree your real world usage is unlikely to create prime95-level of heat.

I would do some gaming and some editing and monitor your temps; see what max temperatures you get in a more real world scenario. If you find you're way below 77C you may as well stick w/ 4.5 or higher.

Which version of prime95 were you running? The latest versions have some issues with Haswell but I don't recall if that is applicable when you've set a static voltage.

I had to go to 1.275 V to get stable at 4.5 GHz

4.5 GHz at 1.225 V resulted in BSOD on boot.
4.5 GHz at 1.250 V resulted in BSOD ~2 minutes into Prime 95 run.

Using the 26.6 version of Prime 95 with Small FFT's.

One thing I didn't mention is that I'm running on the integrated video right now.
When I get the new video card, it may affect the results (less demand on the CPU, but more power draw from PSU).

Munchkin memory only works in little munchkin boards, that could be your problem. You need a smaller motherboard...

I got the Intel utility with the motherboard and was using it for graphing the temperatures because the reported CPU Temp matches the two hottest core temp's in Real Temp.

Didn't even realize it had a stress test.

Edit:
Was able to drop voltage 0.015 V and get to 75 Deg with Prime 95.
Intel XTU only brought temperatures up to ~65 Deg C.

I've gotten tired of these super stress tests, frankly. That sort of heavy sustained load just doesn't happen when I'm using the computer for games or day to day activities.

I no longer try to keep CPU at 75C while under loads it's never ever going to see.

I no longer worry about buying a cooler to try to meet such a demand.
