i5 4670k+h60 or i5 3570k+h80i for gaming and editing?

Hey I needed some help regarding these two CPU's. I am mainly going to do gaming (70%) with some casual rendering and converting of videos (30%) but I can't decide between these two CPU's as some say that ivy Overclock better and haswell is not an major improvement over it but some say that I should get the newer stuff and Haswell is still better as its a clock improvement over ivy and it goes on.....

But these are the main things I want with a CPU:-
1.Has the ability to do moderate oc, I know it depends on the silicon lottery but if I get a decent chip, Then Haswell-4.2ghz or ivy-4.4 or 4.5ghz on the mentioned coolers.
2. Can handle video conversions and little rendering for YouTube. I usually convert movies a lot so I want the best performance in that area.
3.Price to Performance ratio should be higher.

Thanks in advance :)

No point in buying last year's hardware, Core i5 4670K is the only way to go. Both will handle moderate overclocks(4.2GHz) with acceptable stability. Also to consider is that you get a newer socket with Haswell that has compatibility with future processors. You're stuck at a dead end with SB or IB on a LGA1155 board.

i5 4670k + CM 212 EVO

Are you sure 212 evo would be able to oc a decent 4670k to 4.2ghz? And also wanted to ask that does the use of big air coolers affect the rigidity of the board as when I install this in my case, would it put pressure on the board because of gravity?

You should head on over to General Hardware to have them look over your entire build. Instead of slicing the difference between coolers we should be trying to get you into an i7.

But the i7 is just out of my budget as I have extended my budget to get the i5 but if there is any way you could fit the i7 in my build then I may think about it, but do I really need an i7 for gaming and moderate editing?
My planned build:-
i5 4670k+hyper 212
Asus z87 gryphon
8 gb ram Kingston blu
1 tb wd blue
Cx 600 PSU
Dell 21.5 inch monitor

i7 isn't necessary, but let's see what we can do.
What's the budget and what's your location? (and what were you planning for a video card with that?)

(In a LoL match right now so be back in ~40min)

Budget is around 1000$ of US currency but I live in India and that 1000$ really becomes 1200$ because of the conversion of dollars in rupee and also because of adding keyboard, mouse and monitor prices.
I am going to buy a MSI HD 7870.

Make sure to nab the 212 EVO version (not just the vanilla).
Could do a slightly cheaper MOBO, any reason you need MATX?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157370
ASRock Pro 3 with an Intel NIC ~100$

That RAM is pretty much no good, 1.65v (the Hyper X Blu?).
Here's a faster (& cheaper?) kit (2x4GB) at 1.5v

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231550
GSkill Ares 2x4GB 1866 CAS9 $63 after code

Or another option, get a single 8GB stick now and add another later for 16GB dual channel. Here's a decent 1600MHz single stick:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820148540
Crucial Ballistix 1x8GB 1600MHz CAS9 $60

Those are the ones that stick out at me.
Could save you a few dollars, though you don't really need an i7.
An SSD might be nice but not sure it could fit in the budget, though maybe a cache drive ~64GB?

Oh and yes a 212 EVO would handle an OC i5/i7 just fine, the limiting factor is the IHS for the last two generations.

Edit: Just missed the last reply...India makes it more interesting.

The budget is sufficient. Its about focusing your budget on parts that actually matter. Why do you even need an Asus Z87 Gryphon? An ASRock Z87M Extreme4 or MSI Z87M-G43 would've done the same for less and you're able to allocate the budget elsewhere. You should have at least a 128GB SSD in the budget and 600W is unnecessary for a single HD7870.

Ok I'll drop off the gryphon and I'll take the MSI Z87 G43 is that fine?
And buy taking that mobo I can now manage an 64gb ssd I think..and also is the Corsair CX 600w fine or should I take another one?

How is the Adata SP600 64gb and the MSI Z87 G43?

Here's what I come up with using flipkart:

untitled.jpg

The FX-8320 is slightly cheaper compared to the i5 over there than in the US (60% of the i5's cost), but the kicker is the mobo is Rs. 4000 cheaper than a Z87. So this combo is going to be comparable to the i5 in rendering and video encoding (slower in games that are CPU bound) but it's nearly Rs. 11,000 less.

Cheapest 7870 is Rs. 18743, so that GTX 660 saves you a good chunk of change.

Check out this one, I made some changes:-
1.I really need the fx 8350, I know it's a bit costly but I really want it :p
2.I needed a bit of a high end board so that I could Overclock without any issues
3.The HD 7870 is also available in rs.16500 as it says "other sellers" below the price.so that brings down the price to 73500
3.Cx 600 as I want that extra overhead for future upgrades and I've heard these PSU's are really good.
4.I can also grab a H60 if that would help in Overclocking...

I know it's rs10000 more costlier than your build but if you have any suggestions please do tell me..

And I forgot to mention that the i5 system will be only a few thousand rupees more than AMD so is it worth going the AMD route just for saving money or is the intel better?

That would be fine as there's no need for the Asus Z87 Gryphon unless you have the budget for eye candies.

As a user of a CX500, I would not recommend them as mine has a noisy fan problem(it ticks/clicks, probably a sign of bearing fault). My recommendations(limited by what's available on Flipkart) are Seasonic S12II 520W, Seasonic M12II 650W or Seasonic G550. The best choice would be the Seasonic G550, as you don't really need 600W for a single HD7870. Seasonic S12II 520W works too if you're not keen on the modular cables and would like to spend the remainder of the budget elsewhere.

Thanks! :D Then this is my final build (at last :p) :-
i5 4670k+hyper 212 evo
MSI z87 G43 motherboard
8 gb Kingston hyperX(2x4GB)
1 TB WD Blue
Seasonic G550
XFX HD 7870
Dell 21.5 inch 1080p monitor

what is the final price of budget?, check out prices of each single item before buying from Flipkart, you will always save some money. And by the way which monitor did you choose, an IPS one or LED LCD monitor?.

Just to let you know, unless you just want to get water cooling..the Arctic Freezer Pro R2 keeps my load temps in the low 70s @ 4.2.

The single radiator Corsair kits are not any better than good quality air kits.
