i5-3570t

I was looking into using this processor for a HTPC as it runs at 45w but is still decently powered. But I can't seem to find it anywhere. Intel indicates it was released Q2 of 2012 and has a recommended selling price of $205.

Anyone know why I can't find it?

Its a niche product in the channel. Basicly only OEMs buy it. Some people got the 3770t as a special order via some site.

But it makes no sense to get the CPU over a 3570 for example, unless your cooling solution cant handle more than 45W.

Its really not gonna use less power. They both use the same power in idle and they both use around the same for a specific workload. Only the time period for the task variates.

i grabbed the 3770t chips and 2500t chips at provantage.com special order 30 day wait. i can give you the contact email for the sales rep I used.

I don't know how long the wait is or if they are still doing special orders.

the ebay guy has been selling for a long time.

here is my take on the 2500t and the 3770t. no one has shown that the k version will underclock at the same power usage /ghz and be stable.

If you want a silent htpc rig either chip will do. run either one with a fanless sapphire hd6770 or a fanless sapphire hd7750. by default the 3570t should also work well.

my htpc has the 3770t
all scythe 500rpm 120mm fans
crucial m4 ssds
sapphire hd7750 ultimate fanless gpu
samsung ddr3 1600 4g sticks of ram
seasonic x660 psu overkill but runs quiet and cool
a samsung blu ray drive
BTW THIS IS THE ONLY THING THAT CAN BE HEARD.

i PULL 42 watts to watch netfilx i pull 52 watts to watch a blu ray movie. I pull 67 watts to run handbrake all measured at a kill a watt meter. if you run a lot of handbrake the 3770t is the best chip as it runs 4 + 4 cores maxed at about 42 watts

the 2500t maxes at 35 watts but just 4 cores so it would be slower at running hand brake.

Phil that is pretty similar to what I am looking to build. I've purchased from Povantage before so I am familiar with the company, if you could send me over that contact information it would be appreciated.

Hans007 - I had seen the ebay one as well, I wanted to make sure there wasn't something odd going on as I couldn't find it listed on any standard retail websites. (I know there are 'retailers' only based on ebay, but I still tend to mentally consider ebay a secondary market).
