Hey guys I had just placed an order on microcenter for pickup ordering the 3570k and a z77 extreme4 motherboard. However I am having second thoughts after reading the reviews on the
Xeon E3-1230 processor.
It is $199 on microcenter compared to the $189 for the i5 3570k. Now one of my main uses for this build is video editing but I will also be gaming. What are you guy's thoughts on this on which I should choose?
Thanks for any help!
You have asked a difficult question there. It depends on what is most important for you. Comparing the 3570K to the E3-1230 you loose 3% clockspeed but gain HT. The E3-1230 will be faster then the 3570K for video encoding but slightly slower for gaming. The 3570K draws less power then the E3 because the 3570K is based on ivy bridge (22nm) while the E3 is sandy bridge (32nm) based.
Of course if you over clock the 3570K is hard to beat.
Two questions though;
1) Will you be using the integrated GPU or do you plan to use a discrete card?. The E3-1230 REQUIRES a discrete gfx card. Otherwise it is the E3-1235 you should be looking at...
2) You might not have noticed, but the ivy bridge based Xeons (E3-12xxV2) are out and they generally cost the same the older sandy bridge based E3-12xx(without the V2)...
Edit; The 3570K supports Intels QuickSync if you want to use that. The E3-1230 does not have an integrated GPU and does not...
