i5-3570K Overclock Crash

I have an i5-3570K that I had overclocked to 4.5GHz. It had been stable through Prime95 running blend at 12 hours, so I left it. A couple weeks later, I started having some weird random shutdowns. More recently, I got a BSOD and noticed that my CPU defaulted back to stock clocks, while everything else seems untouched. Is there any way to be sure this was a result of the CPU and, if so, is it safe to go back to overclocking (assuming a lower final clock)?

It is not uncommon for modern boards to revert back to stock speed after an instability is detected. You shouldn't have a problem going back to overclocking, maybe at a lower speed this time.

Yeah the problem is more frequent than you think, but you should be able to at a lower speed, should work fine.
