hello guys,

i've been reading the posts for the last two hours about oc'ing this rig.

i'm using antec 620 for cooling (water)
i've followed this guide .

i also read some more threads and i have a question.

when vcore set to "auto" on default settings, while running occt - vcore value gets to 1.22 max @ stock.
how come people say they've got to 4.6ghz @ 1.25-1.27v ??? i can't get it to work stable @ 4.4ghz only if i increase the voltage to 1.3v.

what is wrong with my rig ?

To start with the hotter your chip runs the more vcore is needed to be stable.
The 3770k require less voltage to optain the same clock speed.
Not all chips are equal its the pick of the draw.

so lets say i give it 1.4v and succeed maintaining the temp under 80C, is it okay ?

The only thing that can be said is that 1.4v @80°C is safer than 1.4v @90°C running any chip over stock voltage isn't "safe" you run the risk of the chip degrading or even breaking it.

If however you are looking for opinions (and don't come runing back if/when you bork your chip) 1.4v is pretty much the most volatge you want to be running through an IB chip for 24/7 use and I wouldn't personally run over 1.35v.

He's right. I can get SB i5 2500K to 5GHz stabily but it needs 1.50v. I'm at 4.5GHz which is a given on most i5 2500Ks and I only have to use 1.275v. This the best overclocking chip since my 566 Mhz Coppermine Celeron way back when that overclocked 50% and more!

I'm going to guess you haven't delidded your 3570k. If you want to get to the promised land - 4.6GHz with sub-1.3V - you are probably going to have to delid your 3570k and replace the CPU TIM with some liquid ultra.

1.4V is rather steep for a 3570k. Did you purchase the Intel performance tuning plan warranty? I would stick with no more than 1.3V if you haven't.

My first intel build was a sweet 500 Mhz Coppermine.
I bought some unknown memory that claimed 150 speeds.
That stick of memory maxed out at 159 or 795 Mhz with a beta or edited mb bios.
