Hi.

I am wondering if I should get a CPU cooler (Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo cooler) to OC my CPU. I am wondering if there is a better cooler for the same price (56 NZD). I will be buying it from this site http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z...R-MASTER-HYPER-212-EVO-COOLER-120mm-PWM-Fan-4

Also I want to see if it is worth it. Is there any benchmarks showing fps gain from stock to OCed? I don't want to use $60 for 5 more fps with a chance of hurting my CPU....

Also the cooler comes with thermal paste. I am wondering if I should buy this. http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z...c-Silver-5-High-Density-Silver-AS5-3.5G-Therm

Would it be worth it?

And last thing. It isn't anything to do with CPUs but I didn't want to make another thread.

I want to get a Cyborg Cat 5 gaming mouse. http://www.nzgameshop.com/pc-accessories/cyborg-r-a-t-rat-5-gaming-mouse-glossy-black-pc

And this. http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z...-Goliathus-Fragged-Speed-Omega-Mouse-Pad---Sm

Are they good? Does anyone know if they work well together?

Well anyway that's all.

Thanks.

Hi Orange, I use the Hyper212 on my home rig, but yeah, $50 does seem to be the mean spot for semi decent 3rd party coolers. Dont think you would be disappointed with the Hyper, though it was fiddly to get on..
I have an Artic Cooler Freezer Pro 7 which has bolt on, but for Socket 775...You can have it if you like, but just need to get the 1155 socket bracket for it....Its Rev 1, not 2...

Finding a Bracket for it would be quite hard. Can't seem to find one anywhere. Anyway buying a bracket coupled with shipping costs to get your Artic cooler to me probably wouldn't be worth it. Thanks though.

From benchmarking a couple of games like Metro LL and Crysis 3 @ 1080P going from stock speeds to 4.8Ghz is only going to increase your minimum framerate, not your avg. Stock for crysis was 30fps minimum and overclocked to 4.8Ghz was 50 fps minimum. It will make your game play much smoother, just don't expect to see an increase in your averages, at least with these two games.

Keep in mind this is with a single GPU. A muti-gpu setup will more than likely benefit from the increase of Mhz.

increasing minimum fps that much is a big deal...sounds like it would be worth it!

Got a Hyper 212 EVO on my 3570k. Have had the system for about 3 mos running the 3570K @ 4.4. At 100% load temp hits 65 (hour of running prime). Is 4.8 that easy on the 3570K's?

It's a crap shoot with Ivy's, more so than Clarkdale/SB/Nehalem/etc previous to it. The luck of the draw with the TIM in combination with the so-called silicon lottery means that some will do 4.8, some will do 4.6, some will do 4.4, all on the same board, same cooler. I personally went through three 3770Ks before giving up on Ivy for my personal use. One was even DOA, which I've never before seen in any Intel CPU. It was unstable even in BIOS from the first time it was installed, so I tried several other mobos, ram, PSUs, etc, no bueno.

Given that you only top out at 65C on prime @ 4.6, which is very comfortable for Ivy, you could probably do a minor volt bump + multiplier increase and hit 4.7 or 4.8 without breaching the limits of stability.

However, the gains from 4.6 to 4.8 are incredibly tiny, and your 4.6 is actually above average imho for those temps. I'd stick with that, it's a VERY solid level. In contrast, even with an H100, I never got any of my 3770Ks to that level of success. Temps were either insane (poor TIM means that even watercooling can't cool the die effectively), I needed more volts than I felt comfortable with for a long-term box, or the CPU simply wasn't stable beyond 4.5 for me. Respectively, I think it was 4.2, 4.4, and DOA for the three I had. I've installed several dozen others for various clients, and half of those were OC boxes. One hit 4.9! Very rare to find one that good. The bulk of them top at 4.4 to 4.5 with sane settings, with a few getting 4.6 to 4.7.

Wow I didn't know how good the Hyper Evo was! I would of liked it to increase frames but but increasing minium that much is amazing! On Shogun 2 I can easily play highest settings (MLAA x2) with 60 fps. But if I do something CPU intensive like go low and view units then it can drop to 20 fps in big battles.

I think I will get the Hyper Evo. Does anyone know if using Artic Silver 5 over the default thermal past helps? It is an extra fifteen dollars so I don't want to buy it if it does nothing.

And does anyone know anything about gaming mice? I posted my question about them in the OP.

I am planing to buy all this stuff so I can play Rome 2: Total War, Mount & Blade: Bannerlord and BF4 on near highest settings without lag. I didn't know that it would increase minimum much but if it does that is amazing. In Shogun 2 for some stupid reason Unit Detail and Shadows and done by the CPU meaning you can have 60 fps. But as soon as you zoom in to the units it lags like crazy. I also heard that in BF4 Multiplayer is crazy with CPU usage. And M&B likes to use a lot too with around 200 units doing stuff at the same time.

If you guys don't know much about gaming mice I will just ask in the hardware section.

What GPU? Even a Titan struggles at some games (solid 60FPS) fully maxed out 16xAA + other settings @ 1920x1200.

I have a 7950 Sapphire Vapour x oced to 1050/1480. It doesn't crash and always stays below 70c. I can't tell the difference between no AA and AA so I turn it on for 2x AA so it's there but barely changes my performance.
