Hi,

I overclocked my I5 3570K to 4.5ghz using 1.31 volts. I am using a H100i cooling system. Is this too much voltage? I ran prime95 for 3 hours and the highest a core went was to 83C. Is that too hot? Thanks for the help. I'm kind of new at this.

Also, will this shorten the life of my processor?

1) Not necessarily. Depends on your personal risk tolerance.
2) It's hot, but it's not too hot.
3) Yes. Does it matter to you if your processor only lasts 5 years instead of 10? I don't think you're at the point where you're risking sudden death due to extreme voltage of temperature if that was your real question.

Thanks for the info. I doubt I'll be using the same CPU in 5 years :)

Seems a bit on the high side for being under water. Terry is correct though it's not so hot as to cause problems.

Doesn't surprise me at all. I got rid of a similar Corsair system when I upgraded to Haswell. They just don't screw down tight with the Intel mount. You can get a tighter (acceptably tight) fight if you source your own bolts and nuts but then it becomes a bear to install.

Bought a closeout Ivy bundle from Tiger w/ an i5 3570k and a Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H, and hit 4.5GHz on stock volts (1.24 vid). Holy crap! All I did was increase the watt/amp ceiling to 150 each and raise the turbo to 45, leaving the regular clock at 34. All with power saving still on. Really makes me wish this mobo had vcore adjustments, but that's still pretty damned good.

Good oc at stock vcore. Mine will only do 4.3

1.3v is a touch higher than I'd be comfortable with, but yeah 83C is pretty warm for watercooling. But I also have read that there are issues with proper mount placement of the H100i, ensure all 4's are pressing down on the CPU.

Nice find, my 3770K can do 4.5 at stock voltage but I haven't put a lot of testing to it yet to see if it's stable, I did play Planetside 2 for a bit on it. Right now I'm back down to 4.2 for the summer months due to room temp going up (no AC).

That voltage seems way too high for you to be at 4.5GHz. Have you tried lowering it?
