I can see situations where both would be a good choice, however unless you provide some information on what you expect to use the machine for all you are likely to get is replies from fanboys or best guesses.

P.s 1 vote for the 3570 :p

I would apreciate some more detailed answers that just "i5 3570k No contest here.. "
What are the downsides of using sucha cheapo MB with the i5? also I want to add that I never plan to use sli or xfire on any of the platforms and I also guess OC-ing on the Intel platform with such a weak MB would be a no no...

Mobo doesnt matter much at all today. Specially when you dont OC.

The only downsides of the H61 board is the potential BIOS issue. (But your AMD solution suffers the same.) And any features you might want extra like USB3 etc.

A 200$ mobo doesnt perform any better than a 100$ mobo.

I see the AS rock 970 extreme 3 has support for the new Piledriver cpus but only since bios ver 2.0, thing is I don't know what bios my MB will come with in case I go with the AMD... any chance the store could update the bios for me or something? :\
And I see the i5 MB should support the cpu as well from what I see on the Asus website

The 3570 will run circles around the 6300. That "cheap" motherboard isn't that bad. No contest.

"What are the downsides of using sucha cheapo MB with the i5?"

no OC, no Sata III, no USB 3.0, only 2 memory slots, also it may not work with i5 ivy bridge without a bios update,

but in terms of performance, there is no difference, and you will have a pretty efficient and fast system...

if you don't use external storage USB 3.0 is probably not a great loss, Sata III is only useful for good SSDs, since you are aiming at lower cost, maybe it's not important to you? anyway, SSD on Sata 2 is still quite nice for real world usage...
2 memory slots should be enough for 8GB....

Sometimes I wonder if the people here know how to read at all, or if they get paid by the post for trolling.

From the links, i5-3570k + H61 board is ~1202 RON.
FX6300 + Asrock 970 extreme 3 is ~1010RON.

I'll give you a another choice for a better system:
FX6300(647 RON) + Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P (203 RON) + Mushkin Chronos 60GB SSD (320 RON) as boot drive for ~1170 RON. It is practically the same price as the i5, but it will truly run circles around the 3570, and I think that even the half brained fanboys will see it. The board is only SATA 2 and no USB 3.0, but it is very stable and solid.

Or, you can change the mobo to the MSI 870-C45 for 25 RON more, and get full ATX size and beefier components. Or, go to the kingston V200+ 120GB SSD.

Are you saying that an FX-6300 "run circles" around a 3570k? Would you care to post a link to that? And if you are saying it will feel faster because of the SSD, that will not increase the framerate in gaming.

And yes, I agree, I really do wonder about the objectivity and motives of some of the posters on these forums. "cough, cough".

That system will indeed run circles around the i5 system.
Do you have a link to prove that it will not? Oh wait, maybe the the HDD gets supercharged because it gets "intel inside..."

The OP system will be used for MMOs and music production. While the i5 might have higher framerates in the MMOs (we don't even know what he will be playing) game experience might be similar (180fps i5 vs 130fps fx6300) But once he is done gaming, we all know that the SSD will make a tangible difference in everything else. Remember, it is a complete system

The burden of proof rests with the one who made the claim. I am still waiting for a link that shows an FX6300 faster than a 3570K.

Multithreaded software sucks for the most part, apps hardly use four cores efficiently so dont buy 8 crap cores that'll go unused. No need to buy cheap retail motherboards when u can grab a refurb overclock ready board just as cheap. The market is flooded with z68/z77 boards that have great vrms. Anyone who spends 200-300 on a motherboard just likes wasting money.

The point that alexruiz is making here is that going for FX-6300 will allow OP to also buy an SSD, which will make the whole system "feel" a lot faster. There's no argument that i5-3570k is a faster CPU than FX-6300. But SSD makes a bigger subjective difference. Faster boot, faster program launch, etc.

Looks slower to me..

Then i suggest you go to the doctor and check your eyes, im sure he will recommend to change the blue glass you wear :whiste:

OC that 920 to 3.5ghz should be a huge gap.

OC the FX6300 and it will still be faster, and what is the most impressive is that FX6300 is faster even in single thread and with LOWER power consumption.
