My friend told me i should not waist my cash on a non T spec I5.
I was planning on getting a I5-3470 for under 180. Told him i planned to overclock it and such and he said:

-it would be a waist cuz you apparently cant overclock it because its not a T spec processor...this true? or is it limited? whats the deal here?
-Is this I5-3470 im looking at better than the I3-3240?
-I was looking at the diffrence between the I3-3240 and I3-3240T and there seems to be NO diffrence what makes the stupid T worth so much?

The T version is a lower power, lower performing version of the chip. It's "better" in the sense that it consumes less power, but it's worse in that its performance is lower due to lower clockspeeds and only having half as many cores.

i See i see...so what about the K spec. i was looking and the k spec is only on select models...there is no I5-3470K....he said the k is the best for OC.

If you're not afraid to overclock, the K series chip wins out. If you have a microcenter nearby, I would never look at anything less than a 3570K i5. Best bang for the buck <$200. By 'saving' <$40 for getting a lesser chip you're dropping 50% performance on a i3. The other i5 and dual core i5 IB's are so close in price, they're not worth it either over the unlocked K.

so what your saying is:

Dont bother with the I3, and if your going to get a I5 Make shur it has a K at the end or its usless.....

what about the I5-655K? is it better than the I3 i listed above? since i cant get a I5 that has a K at the end of it for under 200 i might have to settle for a non K model...

k then...if i cant find a K series for less than 200 ill just get a I5 non K 1155 socket...as i got a Asus Maximus mobo for 30 bucks...dont wanna get a 1gen I5

Scypheroth, do you have a Microcenter near you?

3570K is $189 in-store only. I grabbed mine yesterday! Can't beat that price anywhere.

K processors have unlocked multipliers, which makes them good at overclocking. They also have faster integrated gpus.

If you can't find a 3570k under 200 then try to find a 2500k ... they are both about as fast when overclocked (the 3570k is slightly more powerful at the same frequency, but the 2500k can usually overclock higher).
