i5 & 280x - good for future use?

Hey, I was considering doing a build upgrade and was thinking of:

i5 4670k, maybe with a MSI z97 motherboard
AMD R9 280X, 3GB
16gb DDR3 1833(?) RAM

I happened to find a lightly used Sapphire R9 280X on ebay for $175, they retail around $300 so it seems almost too good to be true. i5 prices on ebay aren't much better than retail though, neither is the motherboard.

I was just wondering opinions on would this build last a decently long time - at least 2 years? I'm not talking running everything on Ultra settings max AA 1440p or anything - probably high settings, maybe some AA, 1080p probably.

Also wondering opinions on do you think this is a good time to upgrade - with new consoles just recently coming out? Or would it be best to wait a while longer?

The answer to this question is always when your computer is no longer to able to perform the way you would like and you can afford to make the necessary changes.

So for example, if your current computer is having trouble playing the games that you want to play right now then there's an argument for upgrading.

If you are hoping to be prepared for a game that's coming out in the future then you wait until that game is released (or at least is in open beta and the true system requirements become clear) and see where you stand.

It has nothing to do with when consoles get updated or how long it's been since you last upgraded or what cool graphics architecture just came out.

The i5 4670K and that Z97 mobo are current tech... so I wouldn't expect to find any bargains on eBay for such hardware. Hell, 2500K's are still going for almost discounted retail...

2 years is easy pickings for that CPU and mobo, probably longer than that if you aren't expecting to play at uber-ultra settings.

 And if a game comes out that you can't play to you satisfaction, then you have to look at what the bottleneck is. The FX-6300 is a reasonable gaming CPU, so it's likely that a GPU upgrade would be all that's necessary to run games for quite some time.
