i5 2500k Temps

Hello everyone, I'm new in the community. I recently build a new computer with an i5 2500k and my biggest concern are my CPU temperatures.
My CPU idles at 30-40 C, and while gaming (bf3 beta) it goes up to 60-70 C; I also did the IntelBurnTest on standard for 4 threads and the highest temperature recorded if i can remember right was around 80-85 C. My cpu cooler is a cooler master geminii s and my motherboard is a gigabyte z68ma-d2h-b3.
What are the right temps for an i5-2500k ? and also any suggestions on what to do to lower temperature will be appreciated since I will be doing OC.
Thanks

Well gemini is a old bastard, so perhaps it's time to get one of the better tower coolers?

Or a Closed WC Loop, they seem to perform near top end Air - if size matters.

Reseat it, new TIM, check everything isn't loose.

get better airflow (more intake/ehaust), with strategicly placed fans.

But that is pretty high and sounds more like the Stock intel HSF.
Did you try compare with the Stock Intel HSF?

Maybe something is broken on it 🙂.

Def. make sure the Cooler is reseated and the thermal compound is correctly applied.

I would first start with that.

Are you getting these temps while running at the stock speed or OC?

You really shouldn't be seeing temps > 72.6C, that is the Intel recommended Tcase, and their stock cooler should keep it below that even while gaming.

The recommendation to reseat the cooler is good. If that doesn't work, you might want to try switching back to the stock cooler, for comparison, and if that is still no-go, RMA the part.

I am running the Cooler Master Hyper 212+ with 2 fans in a push/pull config. My idle temps with the Intel® Core™ i7-2600K is in the low 30's. With the stock cooler I was seeing temperatures in the mid to high 30s and under load up to mid 60's.

I built an i5 2500k for my cousin with a Cooler Master Hyper 212+ (1 Fan). With the stock TIM, I was getting below 80C, according to realTemp, at 4.5ghz at 1.285V in Intel Burn Test maximum stress for 40 iterations.

Christian,

Thanks for sharing that. I am getting the same temps on my 2600k as well with my CM Hyper 212+. I was concerned because with my 2500k, I was getting about 8-10c lower than my 2600k.

Thx for all the comments, I did reapply the thermal compound (I used the cooler master thermal compoud that came with the GeminiII S) and made sure the cooler was correctly installed; the temps stayed the same. I'm actually thinking on changing my cooler from the cooler master GeminII S to a cooler master hyper 212 evo/plus; what do you guys think ? is it a worthy upgrade ? will it solve my temp problems ? cuz I'm running out of options here

As long as your rig runs stable you need to do nothing.
How often do you run Prime95? Only when the rig is in question.
Your temps during gaming is well within the 2500k safe range.

My rig: 2500k runs low 30c idle and 60c mostly in gaming (3d), high 70c to low 80c in Prime95 (torture)

Thx for the reply, I ran Prime95 for like 50min (didn't really know how long to leave it running) an got the same temps as you did bro (high 70c to low 80c), I feel better knowing that older owners of the 2500k have these same temps; so tell me what do u guys think ?, any other advice suggestion ?

I don't know about the Gemin II "S", but the regular dual-120-fan Geminii actually really sucks as far as cooling capability. You wouldn't think so, given it's size, but there you have it. They are really poorly engineered, and you would be better off with a more normal mid-range tower cooler.

thx VirtualLarry; now I'm seriously thinking on getting another cooler while I can return my Gemini II S abd get a refund from newegg. I just got that one (Gemin II S) over the CM 212 plus because I have a micro ATX mini tower; It was my bad cuz if I think if I move the fans from the side panel the CM 212 plus will fit (btw my case is an inwin dragon slayer); what other heatsinks perform well besides the popular CM 212 ? I've read a lot of good reviews of thermalrights and noctuas out there but I want some feedback from people that actually own the heatsink and use it everyday and OC their cpu

I own an i5 2500. (not a 2500k, mistakenly bought the 2500 and installed before I realized I was limited to 41x)

With a Xigmatek GAIA SD1283 heatstink/fan, and set to 41x with all stock settings, according to Speedfan I run IntelBurnTest @ 65-72C max, BF3 set to 1920x1200 on ultra @ 54C max, and idle 26-31C. Generously applied heat paste and scraped the ooze out of the sides with a toothpick after screwing the heat sink down, and its awesome :awe:

The heatsink is 1/8" too wide for my case though, so I cannot put the case's lid on unless I dent a small spot in the metal, or cut a tiny hole for the heat pipes to stick out slightly. For the temps its worth it though. The case was only $20 anyway. Lol.

I'd try another cooler if I were you

Not to derail the thread, but do you HAVE to put TM and R after the intel Core stuff? Like, are you obligated to do so or can you just say 2600K but prefer it the other way?
