i5 2500k and on chip video

I am doing my first build in like 4 yrs. I no longer on my computer.
I am clearly not real power user but I still prefer windows over Mac.

I watercool but will not overclock as I have no need.

I would like to do if the on die video is acceptable for running a monitor and doing simple tasks. I view some videos on line.

Otherwise, I can't see much need for separate video card. If I do get one it will be very low end. I prefer no videocard with a fan to reduce noise.

Can I get by with the video on the i5 2500k?

I bought an Asus p8z68-v pro/ gen3 so I should be able to the on die graphics chip correct?

Thanks guys

Yes you can use the APU to display on your monitor. But why bother getting the I5 2500K if you dont overclock? I5 2500 is fine for you, and why water cool if you dont overclock? stock air will be fine.

The 2500k come with the better intel onboard graphics if you can call it that I believe. Looks like he's already invested into water cooling so shifting it to a SB doesn't take much effort. Maybe a new water block if no backplate is available for his current one. Buying the 2500k would also give him the option of overclcocking in the future if needed.

OP.....Yes that would work out fine.

Thanks. I previouy like to overclock and I enjoy building a waterloop.

I bought i5 2500k and the Asus p8z68-v pro/ gen3 already. Just was not if I needed a "new" videocard.

I appreciate the advice

I watch 16 videos at the same time in small windows smooth fluid they all play plus 4 online videos playing at same time. CPU still has room for more.
You can do this with a any quad core processor in the world right now.. thank you

My laptop has a 2520M with HD3000 IGP (Lower clocks than the desktop version) and it plays most games pretty well on low to medium settings.

Just be sure to update to the latest drivers from Intel. I was sitting on drivers from March of this year and getting an Avg of 40FPS in SC2. I upgraded to the latest drviers a few days ago and the Avg FPS went up to about 60. Massive difference!

I run two 1280 x 1024 monitors on mine without a problem, and play some older games such as bioshock etc. I"m sure if you want to game on bigger resolutions it would struggle, but for older 4:3 monitors it's enough I think. Haven't had any issues at all with any other video tasks

I have a dedicated gpu- 7300gt ddr2 and it equals the onboard video.

I guess i will just re-run my x1900 in the water loop. Probably the best option.

Onboard should be fine The stock fan is fine, why add extra complexity to your cooling solution.

I have the watercoolibg and I enjoy building the loop. Watercoolibg is not a complexity, if you know what your doing.
It is quite easy to watercool.
