i5 2500k and i7 2600k Level 3 cache performance

I noticed in reviews that in the screenshots it shows a i5 2500k's L3 cache is 8-way associativity and the i7 2600k's L3 cache is 16-way associativity. Not only does the i7 2600k have 100 MHz higher clocked L3 cache and 2MB more L3 cache than the 2500k, it also has double the associativity of the 2500k. Does doubling the associativity of the L3 cache make a big difference in L3 cache performance?

No, its 12-way.

2-ways per MB of cache. So its probably just disabled. Regardless of how it makes the L3 caches perform, the real world difference between 8-way and 16-way will be at most 1-1.5%.

cache on SB run at same speed as the processor . So cache performance at 4ghz is better than 3ghz. to really see the performance gains of the cache is for us laypeople hard to put numbers on . Than you have 2 mbs more cache on 2600k thats why 16-way vs 12way
