Ok so i posted a build a few days ago about building a comp for my wifes parents and got great feedback from people here. With that info, i re-did the build and made it more of a family comp....i think. Cut down on the build price by about $150 with the help of some well timed promos. went with the gts450 instead of 6850 bc im not sure that the igp will do everything they want and a 450 im sure will handle whatever uses they have. stayed with the RAM bc it went on sale. Went with the c300 bc it also went on sale and with the changes it was well in budget(thanks for that idea). Mobo is cheaper, but may still be too much, let me know what you think, open to all suggestions. Thanks in advance.

If this PC is for web-browsing and email, I think that SSD may be overkill; your in-laws may not even notice the difference. If the SSD in only intended to speed up the OS (not games and such), then I would go for a smaller SSD...

H67 boards are under $100 since you won't be overclocking.

i3-2100 is worth considering since this apparently isn't a gaming PC

Yeah, family PC, get "low end" stuff for it.. and by no means is the new SandyBridge chips low end, nor the other parts. But here:

H67
No need for an SSD unless you want "quiet" performance
If you can find the i5 2100T get that... or just the i5 2100
No need for a video card with the H67

Edit: you might want to consider this mobo + i3 2100 combo for just $99 at microcenter:
If only i was fortunate enough to live near one. Thanks for catching that, meant to get the H67. And the SSD is for the OS and other apps that they will end up putting on this build so it 'feels fast'. Basically they want everything to boot up fast and since the SSD is on sale thats the route im going with that and the HDD will be just a storage drive. I dont know what all apps he wants to put on the comp, but i imagine there will be more than a few. And probably he wont really notice, but since there is a budget for it, then why not.

Definitely go with the H67 mobo that you posted later. Additionally, the RAM still shows as $50 for me, this Patriot kit is still $10 cheaper. Also, the C300 shows as sold out and $255 for me. That's a bit steep for a 120GB SSD, the Corsair Force 120GB is a better bet at $210.

So then you don't need the GPU...

email promo codes, $5 off for the RAM and the c300 is $199(explains the sell out). and i saw the c300 was sold out, maybe itll pop back up here in a day or two. can the igp handle movie playing, editing, rendering....things of that nature. i know its a decent igp at best, just wasnt how good it actually is.

Yep, the Sandy Bridge IGP can handle all of those things. It's actually really good a quickly encoding videos to Youtube and mobile formats because of QuickSync.

The K series IGP with the 12 cores is currently the best IGP that money doesn't have to buy. :colbert: It is as good as low end discrete graphics cards like the Radeon 5450, and probably twice as good as any other IGP.

Of course the non-K IGP is lower end with only 12 cores, but we're talking about gaming performance here. IGP has not been a bottleneck for most non-gaming tasks in years.

Lose the graphics card, go with the H67 chipset board, either spend more on a Core i5 2500K (for the better IGP) or less on a Core i3 2100.

To save some money you can go with a Kingston 128GB SSD the next time there's a deal on it (usually $200 shipped from Buy.com, with a $75 off rebate) or an Intel G2 120GB on the next deal (usually $200 shipped from Newegg with a $30 rebate). The difference going from a HDD to an SSD is much greater than the difference going from a cheaper SSD to a more expensive SSD.

Without a discrete GPU, you can go cheap on the PSU. Let me rephrase that. You can go lower cost on the PSU without sacrificing much quality. If you really want to retain the wattage for possible future upgrades (in case there's a budding gamer in the family) then get the Antec NEO ECO 520C for $4 more from Newegg. Otherwise you can save around $15 with the EarthWatts 380W. You can also save $20 (after $10 rebate) with the Corsair CX430 (you just missed a sale on it - $14 after coupon and rebate!). You can also save $10 or more by going with a Seasonic 300-350W 80Plus Bronze PSU.
