What would be more appropriate for a kids computer? I have the following items to reuse:
2. I would like to keep the total cost under 350 not including an operating system.
3. I will order parts from the USA
5. I would like to stick with intel processors
6. I have the following parts I would like to reuse:
- Antec three hundred ATX Mid tower
- Thermaltake W0116RV 750 Watt Power supply.
- Intel x25-M 80 GB SSD
- WD green 1TB drive
- DVD Burner
- Monitor
- Mouse
7. No Overclocking
8. Planning on running one 19" 1280x1024 monitor.
9. I plan to build it in the next week or two.
Oh, the i3 will work great, but I would probably spec a G3220 given the intended usage. Unless the PC gets bogged down with excess running processes, it's unlikely there would be a perceptible difference between the two CPUs. One way to keep things running good is to make sure the kids do not have admin privileges.
Consider: If you are buying at microcenter it might make more sense to step up to the i3 4340 and get $30 off a mobo combo. If the kiddies start doing bigger badder games drop in a GPU.

Can you be more specific about the details of Microcenter's pricing structure that support this point? The G3220 is $50 in-store there, seems like a killer deal.

The simple short answer is no. Intel's stock-cooler is very good in fact...
