Hi, I got an i3-4130, Asrock h81m-dgs, 4gbs RAM DDR3 1333, HD5850, Thermaltake 450w... well, my moba doesn't work fine, because somestimes the PCIe slots dont recognize the speed.

Well, a friend offers me this config: i5-3330, Gigabyte Z77-DS3H, 4GB ram DDR3 1666 and a Cooler Master e600 600w for 200€ (which is aproximately 200$).. do you guys think that's worth?

I'll use it to play some games like Far Cry 3/4, The Witcher 3, BF4... what do you think?

Greetings!

PS: I have 'til tomorrow to decide.

I'd say it's worth it.

You can combine the two builds to get 8GB RAM and a 600W power supply.

Also the Z77 motherboard gives you the possibility of upgrading to a i7-2600k, i7-2700k, or i7-3770k in the future if you want to overclock, and when these parts have gone down in price.

Might want to think about upgrading your graphics card to play Witcher 3.

Woah thano you both, so should I buy the config my friend offers to me? Will I notice some difference in games if I jump from my i3-4130?

The i5 will do better in anything that is multi-threaded.

The newer i3's efficiency and higher clock help it a bit, though.

It's not as far behind as you might think.

What about single-threaded games/apps? does it make any difference?

So... in the gmaes i mentioned before... i5>i3?

However, you'll be able to overclock 400mhz with the i5.

http://ark.intel.com/products/65509/Intel-Core-i5-3330-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_20-GHz

On the website seems like it only goes to 200mhz extra?

One more question, I will use the default heatsink, thats would be ok?

EDIT: Okay, I just find out I got 4gbs 2x2 on this config (i3 4130)... so, what about 4x2 ddr3? I mean, is that even possible? the 4gbs module that my frieng got is 1666 and my 2x2 is 1333, can I get 6gbs? will increase the speed or its better to get only the 4gbs module?

Yuriman meant overclocking, I think, not the i5 Turbo mode.

I believe the heatsink will fit/work. If it does not, a new one is low cost.

With 4X2, they will all just run at 1333, which will be fine.

Is it 2X2 and a single 4gb module?

That will probably also work as 6gb at 1333.

Just use the matching slots (same color)for the 2X2, and then the 4gb by itself in one of the other slots(different color).

Okay, and the las question.. does it worth? I heard about the dual channel and the decrease of performance when u dont stick on dual channel..

2+2 and 4 should give you dual channel for 8GB

and single channel is no big deal for most things, it's only a big problem if you use integrated graphics

Basically this. There are a few situations where dual channel helps a fair amount, but mostly you'll see 0-5% less performance with single channel.

And yeah, 2 + 2 + 4 can still be run in dual channel mode, or should be able to.

i3 4130 is a delightful chip, 4130T is nicer albeit slightly slower but more power efficient. 3330 is a bit old and still expensive.

I just ordered two i3-4160T (3.10 GHz) for $90 each on eBay today, but I'm unsure if they are still slow. But I'm still better off than 2.90 GHz in i3-4130T, of course.

Now, I'm just 300MHz negative from i3-4130 standard power. Am I still far off? There's i3-4170T 3.20 GHz just announced, which I know it will help, but I don't think I can buy one for $90.

The 4370 has me tempted, although I just heard there's a 4370T variant too... Prices of these things has skyrocketed so ridiculously in Canada as of late (4370 is $160 USD vs $240 CAD, and a 4130T went from $135 to $190 CAD, I kid not), good thing I'm not very far from Seattle so I'm going to have to look for a store in Seattle before I go down and see if I can find one.

There will be a i3-4380 coming out rated at 4.0GHz in late-2015. Also, Celeron G1860 at 3.0GHz as well. Intel just released Pentium G3470 (70 at the end and final), so i3 will end at 80 (i3-4380), as well as Celeron at 60. i5 and i7 both end at 90. Get the picture.

Canada prices are inflating because the USD/CAD exchange rate shows US dollar is appreciating and getting stronger again, while Canadian dollar is depreciating, so deflation for US and inflation for Canada.

It was two months ago (March) when the Canadian $ was weak, it's back up to where it's been for the past few years ($0.80 USD = $1 CDN and yet prices of things here continues to rise, video games went up $10 twice this past year alone.
