I was using the celeron G530 before and it was about equal to a E7500 cpu so coming from that and a 8800gt to the i3 2100 and a hd6850 should be a huge improvement.

From the looks of things I wont have the cash for a video card until feb 10th so I have some time and hopefully prices come down on the hd6850 a little.

I really want to upgrade my tv to a bigger 1080p display but that wont be happening for at least 3 months months and when that does happen I will donate this pc to my daughter. I will then build a 2500k rig and will either look into crossfire hd6850's or a 7 series video card. I just need something to hold me over for a few months time.

Amen brother i am in the same boat as you but waiting till March to see what the 7000 series has to offer if we are so lucky to see the rest of the lineup by then.

I know the i3 2100 is gonna be replaced by a 2500k and i will just drop it in my h67 and hold off on a new motherboard till z77 is here perhaps we will get some discounts on z68:biggrin: After that oc madness.

Also drop $400 coin into a gpu perhaps the 7950 will retail for $400 with gtx580 performance on a lower tdp?

Meantime i will play me some BF2 at 1920x1020 low on the hd2000 and punish myself for a bit more then a month god the things i do to myself sometimes .:awe:

If they come in April perhaps the idea of a i7 3770k might interest you i know its just drilling in the back of my head.

I am not even kidding i played BC2 last night at 1024x768 low dx9 enabled and out of like 20 people on the server i was like the third best despite my 22-39 fps and me lagging like crazy i went for it and at first i pulled 0/5 in the chopper cause of some m136 noob tuber and i am thinking this is gonna suck but eventually i took out some rival copters and went 18/8 i believe and im laughing thinking these guys must suck or have worst off specs then me:awe:

I played Mw3 today for a minute at the same res with everything at low and got a little higher frame rate then that but I got worked. I can't play that game with low FPS and the lag due to it being so fast paced.

I'll look up that i7 and see what it's about

I dont really use any programs to take advantage of the SSD speed. If I got one the only thing on it would be windows, and fire fox LOL. What size SSD do you suggest me getting?

Really my budget is more then enough to do whatever I want to this pc I just have to wait on the funds to come in and I really don't need a super bad ass pc because I honestly don't do much on it.

I might play my games on it for maybe 2 hours a night but 95% of the time it is being used as a HTPC in the living room hooked up to my HDTV for streaming netflix and hulu since I refuse to pay $90 a month for cable, sat sucks in my area I tried it before and honestly between hulu and netflix I am good, I dont watch much tv.

I am gonna wait for IVY to drop and make a choice then for what quad core cpu to get. I figure a Ivy quad, a small SSD, a HD6950 or equal 7 series card a new 50 inch HDTV and a 6-700 Watt power supply and I will be good with this pc for years to come.

Why would you need a 600-watt power supply? My 2600k system pulls around 250watts while gaming. 2600K @ 4.3GHz, 4x4GB DDR3, 6950 2GB oc'd (no voltage increase though), M4 SSD, 2x Samsung F3 1TB HDDs, NZXT Hale 650w 90+ Gold PSU.

Let's see...

hd6850 is gtx460 class, right?

gtx460 was designed for full hd, right?

1366x768 is gonna be piece of cake for that card, right :)
untrue actually gta IV is a prime example of where a dual-core just wont do. as is saints row 3, civ V, bfbc2, bf3, just cause 2, supreme commander 1 & 2, C&C:generals 2, NFS: the run, dawn of war II, and total war: shogun 2.
assuming they used the same engine for gta IV that they did la noire. expect moderate issues with gameplay. assuming they didnt then itd still be nice to have the quad. there isnt an excuse anymore not to have a 4 core cpu you can find em on the cheap.

i give you TC the ability to play most games on medium or better until ehh christmas 2012. by which point we will have an idea or will have the next consoles in our hands which basically are all quad core's or better and all will sport more graphically demanding workloads. by then your preformance will diminish noticeably.

hence why i say to msot folks, get a quad core (omit phenom I) or greater core count. and rest on your laurels cpu wise for in excess of a year. multi-core's time is now and a dual, is just not wise

assuming you believe the hype mill these are the specs of the next consoles if you wanted to compare them part for part to a pc:
wii-u:
amd or intel quad (Athlon II /core 2 quad or better)
## gb ram
hd 4830/8800gtx or better

ps4:
amd phenom II x6 1035t or intel equivalent
## GB ram
hd 5670/9800gt or better

XBOX 720:
quad core cpu (amd athlon II/core 2 quad or better)
## GB ram
hd 5670/9800gt or better

as you can see nobody has a dual and therefore about 90% of all your console ported games will be needing a quad core of some kind, meaning that rather than breaking the dual-core barrier due to age the industry is just going to hop the fence and go to the next barrier which is the 4 core.

I3-2100 owner here. You'll be fine with all of those games at high settings.

Lol. Too good to pass up on a gold 80+ 650w modular psu for $80. Maybe they are knocking the 430cx?

It's all good, they can knock it if they want. I got this PSU for $30 with shipping, it's not like it's a shitty psu either. Hey I would of jumped on that deal also, that's a very nice price

Yeah back then NCIX had those 430CX's for $30. I bought up quite a few of them. They work just great. Much better than the cheap OCZ units. As for the 6850, I've got one and it runs most of my games well at medium->high (mostly latter) so I'd think you'd be happy with the 6850 OP.
