Than take a government handout.

When did it go from people being ashamed to be given other people's wealth to people expecting and demanding it each month as their right ?

Yeah I'm going to go out on a limb and say you wouldn't choose death over government benefits.

In fact chances are you've already been the recipient of government benefits of some sort.

I think what programs you think are handouts would be a start to legit discussion.

OP is a blowhard. Blowhards just make me smirk and think, "He can talk the talk, but I wonder if he could walk the walk?"

Well, good thing the rest of society aren't so sociopathic that we aren't concerned with helping other people get by with their lives when they fall on hard times. And we're not so emotional and irrational about "evil government!!!" that we let a few ugly anecdotes persuade us that abuse and corruption are widespread and government programs are never useful and efficient.

Even from a purely emotionless viewpoint, even hard working and talented people can have bad luck, such as losing their job through no fault of their own, and in bad economic times it can take at least weeks to months to find a new one. People can get sick and be unable to work for months or years and have crippling bills, even with insurance. People can get robbed, or have their property destroyed in uninsurable ways. It's better to help them recover and become productive again than let them die on the street.

See what I mean ? People who would be ashamed to take other people's government distributed wealth are now considered 'blowhards'.

I know a family that could very much use some gov. assistance, they have chosen not to take any. I say kudos to them. For them they would rather lose their house. What a contrast to so many others.

They are hardcore people that's for sure.
I can't say I know anyone like that for sure
But then again, I can't think of any time in my lifetime anyways, that people were losing their houses and needed some kind of handouts around here

While I understand the sentiment, I think it's far more accurate to refer to receiving a "government handout" as "recovering stolen property", because that's what it really is. The government doesn't hand anything out. Why? Because it has nothing and produces nothing. Everything the government has is stolen. Even when the government prints money it is stealing via inflation of the money supply. The government is really nothing more than a legalized Mafia extortion racket/counterfeiting operation writ large.

So, when you take a government handout, what you're really doing is roughly the equivalent of chasing a pickpocket down the street and taking your wallet back. Again, you're recovering stolen property. That's why all these Leftist parasites are getting defensive about it. They don't want you chasing them down and "stealing" your wallet back. They would rather you just give up and resign yourself to a life of being stolen from.

For I have sworn before you and Almighty God the same solemn oath our forebears prescribed nearly a century and three quarters ago.

The world is very different now. For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life. And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe - the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God.
...............
..........
And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country.

Op still hasn't said what programs are handouts.

Unemployment, disability, food stamps, obamaphone, tuition reimbursement to name a few I would never accept. Some are worse than others. My tax return for example is my money to begin with, so I will take every penny of that I can get back.

And just why the fuck should I feel bad for taking unemployment when i won't even get close to getting out of it what I put in the tax system. Maybe if these idiots in Washington would learn how to balance books and stop giving away our tax money for nothing this country wouldn't be in such a huge debt.

So you think disabled people should just be left to rot, or you'd just kill yourself if you needed it?
