I would like to put together a HTPC for my family

We are getting a newer tv that is not a 27" 15yr old tv which still works great but its small. So we are getting a newer 37in from some relatives i have no clue the specs of it, but i would like to put together a decent htpc for us. No real budget, cheaper the better, just want it to get the job done. and SILENTLY

What i have to work with:
P4 2.4 non ht
256mb stick of ram. may want more
80gb WD
I'm going to try my luck at a wooden case so that would be cool and good looking, or maybe a old receiver case but I'm going to have fun with that.

Things i need

good mobo, maybe a cheapy cpu/mobo combo
probably a 350psu Fortron 350w or Seasonic S12 330w
gpu
tuner
DVD player Pioneer DVR-111D
(Maybe a AIW?)
sound card? i think on board will do for now, we don't have a system. might get a logitiec 5300 or something for the time being.

Im going to do some research, myself, just want some input from the crowd. thanks

Well i know how to get comps silent i got mine nice and silent. Do i need a gpu along with the tuner or will on board work just fine?

I really need help with the tuner.

my picks:
mobo - ASUS A8N-VM CSM

for the extra $20, this board has a stronger video solution and you get the retail package with all the stuff, not OEM

PS - Seasonic S-12 330
i can vouch for Seasonic's quality and quietness. imo, easily worth another $10

tuner/pvr - Hauppauge 1062 PCI Interface WinTV-PVR-150 MCE Kit
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16815116631
very similar to the 150, but with proper RCA outputs for $5 extra

os - WinXP MCE

dvd - sata is the only way to go

hdd - SAMSUNG SpinPoint T Series 320GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822152054
you won't find more than 320GB for under $100, and this is regarded as a nice, quiet drive

i would live with the on-board sound and stock cpu cooler as long as possible. down the road, you might want to pick up a sound card and a big, quiet cooler. maybe a hdd silencer like the scythe silent box? nexus fans are also very nice.

People around here have claimed that you can turn off your CPU fan if you have a really good HSF, Scythe infinity comes to mind, but don't take my word for it.
