I only use the hose with a powerhead. Besides, the electrical outlet should be next to the vacuum outlet (inlet?), so plugging it in isn't that big of a deal. Plus, you don't have to clean out the waste if it vents outside, and throwing out the waste for a bagless canister is easy. And, it's a lot lighter. In fact, you have to carry a hose, beater brush and nozzle from room-to-room in order to use it - along with plugging that additional device in. Personally, I'd rather use an upright vacuum cleaner, which can be thrown out when it gets worn out.
