I won't leave my sunroof cracked to let air out again

I was just at the grocery store this evening and I realized halfway through that I had left my keys in my car, for the third time in two weeks. Huzzah! I tried calling my housemate who had helped me in the past and another friend I have here (I'm new to the area) and neither one picked up. I returned the frozen items I had in the car and just waited for a return call, cruising the grocery store for an hour or so. Eventually I went back out and took another look around, when I saw that I had uncharacteristically left my sunroof cracked because it was the first hot day of the summer (here in NY state). I went back into the grocery store, borrowed a broomstick and poked the door unlock button. Presto! I'm in business. Definitely an answer to the prayer I had prayed 3 minutes prior. It was only cracked 1.5" or so, and on top of a tall SUV(Montero) so I didn't think twice about it being a theft risk- but I was able to gain access in about 15 seconds and I didn't have to stand on top of a box or anything. I don't think I'll crack my sunroof anymore.

[blonde]But do you still lock your doors?[/blonde]

Locks only keep honest people honest. Of course lock them!

(and keep a key in your wallet, I learned after a 4 hour wait for a tow truck.)

I always lock the doors with the key FOB. Or whatever the hell you call that thing... Anyway, never been locked out yet! 🙂

my car won't let you lock the doors if the keys are inside. (i mean, if you leave them inside and try to lock it from the outside).

nissan ftw.

nissan ftw.

So your car knows if you left your keys on the seat, the floor, etc. and not in the ignition lock?

I wouldn't be surprised. new miatas are the same way. it has to do with the chip in the key/key fob

That would definitely be a nice feature to have.

So you prayed and god opened your sun roof for you?

That's exactly what happened.

If you prayed to god, and he opened the sun roof Why the fuck wouldn't he/she just open the damn door?

And if he opened your sun roof then...Why The Hell would you NOT do it again? Shouldn't you tell Jesus to stop fucking with your sun roof and close it since it wasn't you that left it open in the first place?????

God reminded him that the sunroof was open and gave him the idea to use the broomstick. Try to keep up. 😉

OP - I would say that based on the number of times your car has been stolen because you left the sunroof open (zero), and the number of times the open sunroof has gotten you into your locked car (one), and the number of times you've locked yourself out of your car in the last two weeks (three), you probably ought to crack the sunroof in the future. Imagine if you had locked yourself IN the car, the heat would have been unbearable and you may have died.

I think the anti-theft devices in cars these days make it a bit more difficult to steal a car. Getting in is just half the battle, and a closed window isn't going to keep someone out of your car.

Haven't you ever heard the phrase "when God closes a door he opens a window"?

Yes. Infiniti here. I have keyless start so I never have to take keys out of my pocket. Even if I did, car will not lock if keys are inside the car (including trunk)...very nice feature. (Tried to lock the car once when it was new and it wouldnt lock...took ~5 min to figure out that I had forgotten keys in the car lol)
