I wonder how many people got a wireless network in a box...

I know my brother-in-law setup a network and he and his neighbor were on each others networks for about 6 months before they realized it and secured them.

I just setup a client on their home wireless. There were 8 active wireless networks and 5 of them were unsecured. I'm sure this happens all the time.

I'd guess about 25% 🙂

The situation in my 'hood has gotten much better. I used to be able to connect to a few unsecured networks when waiting to move the family (i.e. borrowed not mine) car (alternate side parking insanity in NYC). Now? Zero, at least on my street. Of course I can get my own, secured network.

setting up a wireless network for my friend. WPA works, but her TiVo can only use WEP. For some reason I can't get WEP to work with her laptop. so now i'm stuck leaving it unsecured or no TiVo. if i enable MAC filtering is it secure enought?
