But I don't have any Apple products (outside of work) and it's the 32gig version which is pretty limiting.

I'm currently torn between my incredibly strong desire to tear it open and play with new tech, and trying to sell it before Christmas to get a decent amount for it (since they're all sold out).

I'm so conflicted

I would sell it, and use the money to buy something better. Heck you can probably get the MSRP for it if you sell it locally. Last minute gift for someone, as chances are someone that wants to buy it now would not get it on time.

You can also try to register as a new user on a bunch of forums and try to give it away for free, a lot of people do that. :p

iPad's are sold out? Where?

Serious answer... sell it, and get a Samsung tablet with similar hardware specs (and more storage) for half the price. Spend the remaining balance on liquid Christmas cheer :)

Maybe true for their high end stuff, but 32g will be their entry models. I seriously doubt samsung has anything close for the price, let alone half.

I checked Best Buy and Walmarts website to see what these go for, and noticed they were out of stock. Not sure about all of the iPad models, but the ones I saw were

They don't, I checked. They have nice options at the same price point though, so if I could just swap for one of those I'd be happy.

Sell it, 32 gig is too limiting.
32 GB is fine as long as you're not trying to use it to store music, pictures, or videos. These 32 GB devices are more just for web browsing or streaming content.

Let's look at it from another angle. If you suddenly found that much cash money in the couch, would a 32 gig ipad be the first thing you'd go out and buy? Probably not.

I bought a 32GB for my wife. Was debating whether the 128GB was worth the extra $80 but in the end she told me she didn't really store anything on it so 32GB was fine. She just uses it for web browsing, recipes, and the occasional game or two.

I don't think the storage size is really the issue, I think from the OP's posts that keeping it or not is the issue. A I pointed out, would he go out and buy it if he found that much money (was the OP actually looking to buy a ipad already) or something else, or nothing at all and just save the money. But that's up to the OP.

You would "think" that 32 GB is enough, but my daughter quickly ran out of space on hers. For her, it was the photo storage that took up most of the space. If you also have an iPhone and you have it syncing your photo and video library... forget it. You'll fill up the storage in months.

Her new Android tablet has 128 GB of storage... and it cost less.

Games generally eat up storage quickly. All I do on my iPad is read news and books (it used to be my primary video streaming device as well) so I hardly use any storage out of the 32GB. Android tablets are still widely considered a joke, so trading an iPad for an Android tab is a strange recommendation. It's not that the hardware is bad, but that the software ecosystem is weak. I also don't know if there's a single Android tablet SoC that matches Apple's A12 in performance (and A12 came out in 2018).

You should give it to me and end your confusion. I'll give it good home, feed it and treat it with loving care :p

I use my iPad as a morning newspaper. The battery lasts forever, so I wake up, grab it off my nightstand, read my news/email/social media, then start the day.
