Class-action lawsuits are good in that they:
1. Help deter businesses from screwing their customers.
2. Give customers some recourse when they're screwed out of a small amount of money that isn't worth suing for individually.

Class-action lawsuits are bad in that they:
1. Encourage a$$-hat lawyers to file frivolous lawsuits

I especially hate the ones where the class "wins" and the settlement is "X dollars off your next purchase of a new crappy product from the same manufacturer you swore you'd never buy from again because they screwed you the first time". I'm positive that the judges in these cases are getting kickbacks. The lawyers should be shot.

I just got my PayPal settlement ($8 I think). I think I got like 2 cents from that AmEx settlement.

I had a quarter stolen by a pay phone when I was little. I called the phone company toll free from the very same phone to complain.

They sent me a check for 25 cents. Postage was about 27 cents at that time.

They could have just worked their phone company magic and connected me for free.
