Tickled awake, I soon became horrified as I shook them both off then hugged my sheets and pretended everything was alright.

This is a new apartment that I moved into recently. The roaches are bad here.

Needless to say, I went to home depot right after work today and bought tubes of caulk to seal off all holes that I could find.

The next move is to mix boric acid with sugar and hopefully kill every last one of these hell rejects.

It's kind of funny... I'm not freaked out by roaches but anything that wakes me up at night by crawling on me and potentially into my ear/mouth/nose/eye must be killed.

Any suggestions on how to keep them off my bed?

they are probably in your air vents too and can fall down onto you at any given moment, ive seen it happen. They are dirty, you should be leery of that.

Caulking won't do much I'm thinking. Neither would boric acid. You need to get the place sprayed, but realistically it would be the entire building unfortunately, and more than once.

What's really disgusting and eye-opening though is when they spray, the roaches sometimes decide to come out and die in full view. So instead of just seeing the occasional roach when they're alive, suddenly after a spray you have dozens of them lying on their backs in your rooms and hallways.

How to get away from this? It usually means going to a much nicer place... with correspondingly higher rent. Luxury condos and the like.

Roaches go where there is food. Since you just moved it, it's likely either the previous tenants left food sources around for them or one of your neighbors is doing that. If it was the previous tenants, keep your place clean and no food of any kind unsealed. If it is your neighbors, that will be tougher to fix.

The roach bait that comes in a tube that you can squeeze out in strips under counter tops, near plumbing, under cabinets, works great and lasts for years. If you just moved in call the landlord/manager and tell them you've got a problem and want a pro to come in and spray ASAP.

You need to fumigate. Go to the store and by one of those foggers, spray cans that you set up and leave the place for several hours. It might take two applications, one week apart, to get the full egg cycle. It will work though, totally. I had this same problem but likely much worse at an apartment I had in college.

OP I can empathize because I was just in a similar situation. I moved into a rental property where the landlord was forced to evict a tenant due to his hanging out with gang members after he got a divorce. There was a serious roach problem which the landlord thought he'd brought under control. Wrong. First night I was there, I woke up to four roaches crawling over me (I was crashing on the floor).

I flipped on the light and about 10 roaches scattered, it was disgusting. I slept with the light on that night.

Anyways, I'll tell you how I handled the situation. First, if your bed has legs, you can rub the legs with vaseline. If that's all that is making contact with the ground roaches can't crawl up vaseline. If you're sleeping on a mattress or bedroll, what I did was buy a sleeping mask and leave the light on all night. That way I could sleep and roaches do not crawl around when it's light.

To kill the roaches, I used Combat roach gel which worked wonderfully. If you apply it correctly it can destroy a whole colony in a matter of days. I used about 2 teaspoons total over a week, and now the roaches are 100% gone - haven't seen a roach in weeks. :)

The solution is to not live in an apartment. You can keep your side clean as much as you want but if they're breeding in another unit they'll eventually find a way to yours.
