I woke up this morning and the closet light was on.

Weird. I know i didn't turn it on unless i turned it on in my sleep.

weird.

nothing was missing in the house, so i don't think anyone got in to steal anything.

stuff like that happen to anyone else?

Maybe your subconscious is trying to tell you something if you went into the closet and then came out again. ;)

I concluded that you came out of the closet last night, but left the light on in case you wanted to go back. :)

not a chance. i am really anal about turning off lights, especially before i sleep.

Either you missed my sarcasm, or I missed yours.

scares the hell out of everyone..and curiously the landlord keeps asking strange questions like
'is everything normal?'...'any weird problems?'...adds to my suspicions...

its better now after i had some talks with it..

Will you come to my house and fix my light?

Is this the same poltergeist that downloaded 90 gigs of porn to your computer? ;)

One morning I woke up and the TV was on. I didn't remember turning it on the night before. Initially I was a little weirded out, but there was a storm overnight so I figured some kind of power surge made it come on.

You didn't buy any weird paintings off ebay recently did you?

If so, can I have your TV when they get you?

:)

No weird paintings. It's an older console TV I use in the bedroom, but if I get dragged off by ghosts/monsters you're welcome to it. :p

Possible explanations:

You got up in the middle of the night and don't remember it. This isn't sleepwalking necessarily, more like being drunk but from sleepiness. Occasionally it takes your brain a few minutes to start putting things into long-term memory after you wake up, so if you went to the closet at night for some odd reason you might not remember it.

Regular sleepwalking. Some sleepwalkers can go years between incidents and never know for a good portion of their lives.

If you have pets, particularly anything small that chases rodents, it may be to blame. My kitten surprised me by jumping 7 feet in the air once. Did it casually too, like "what, can't you do this?"

If the light switch is upside-down (i.e. flipping it down is "on") something could have fallen. Also, if it is an old switch I know that sometimes the "notch" mechanism inside can get iffy, so when you push it down if you let go it can actually snap back up to the on position from the force of the internal springs.

The "down" spring may have failed, so that the force of gravity and the "notch" mechanism hold it in the off position, but jostle it out of the notch lock and it will flip upwards.

Dirty contacts or a short across the switch. Are you sure you actually had to flip the switch and it wasn't already in that position?

You didn't flip it down all the way before you went to bed, leaving it in the middle somewhere. Eventually the "up" spring won the battle of wills sometime while you slept.

The inner you decided to come out of the closet and forgot to turn off the light. :p

I do that all the time. Probably has something to do with the fact that I've used the same alarm clock since kindergarden. It's really a pain when I don't wake up when I want to.
