What I mean by that, is something that will comebine blue ray dvd player, streaming video receiver (amazon, netflix, hulu), dvr and potentially a game console.

There are bits and pieces available (xbox360 + netflix), (tivo + amazon), (blue ray + netflix) but nobody is offering a complete set just yet.

Not sure how big of the market there will be for those, but I would imagine the price would be a driving factor since outside of software all these devices have a lot in common.

You mean some package taht included everything? Meh, it's more fun to buy separate components and put em together. customization

And what if you don't want it all in one? I guess both can be offered but my bet is people will go for whatever is cheaper.

Your best chance is having Sony implement streaming ability to the PS3, which should be doable if they think they can make some money off of it. I doubt the next 360 will have BR. Nintendo seems happy with what they are doing and don't believe they would do a convergence device.

The PS3 is close to what you what, has everything minus the DVR.
Game Console, Blu-ray/DVD player, and Hulu streaming. Get a Windows server acting as a DVR remotely and stream the data to the PS3. Too bad you're not in Europe, as then it actually HAS the DVR capability for terrestrial DTV.

I personally don't think that I would want my gaming console to also be my DVR, though I can definitely see why some might want that. In my current situation, I want to be able to unplug my game console and take it to a friend's house, and use it there (or watch BluRay movies there). I don't mind having the additional capabilities in the game console, and in fact the biggest reason I got a PS3 was because of its BluRay drive. I just don't think that I'd want to add DVR into that mix.

Aren't there PC-based home entertainment systems on the market that take care of all of DVR, streaming, and BluRay? I thought I saw something from HP that did that?
