Hi all !

I am wishing to upgrade the video card of my PC, but, before, I would like to have some crucial informations. Can you help me, please?

1) I would like to get a X800XT model of Video Card. There are devices for AGP or PCI. Is there some SENSIBLE difference about its performance for CURRENT GAMES? If not, I am intending to get an AGP device, which has a better price...

2) Is it necessary some special feature of the Mobo, if I will opt to get a PCI Model (some special compatibility)? For information, my current Mobo is a P4P800-E DeLuxe (Asus).

3) I would like some suggestions about Brands for this model of video card. My main target is the ratio of Price / Reliability. I am not intending to Overclock it (but would be nice if it would can manage it!). For example: my current Video Card is a MSI 9800PRO; Great card!... When I need, I can OC it to 9800XT and until more ahead, without any problem (although I am not accustomed to do it many times...).

4) Some suggestions of good sites to buy it would be very appreciated, too!

My current PC basic spec, for information...

- Processor: P4 3.0 HT 800 MHz
- MoBo: Asus P4P800-E DeLuxe
- RAM: 1.024 MB DDR 400 (Samsung) - 02 sticks of 500 MB.
- Video Card: MSI 9800 PRO
- 02 HDDs: 01 Seagate 200 GB, 7200 rpm, SATA-150 + 01 Seagate 160 GB, 7200 rpm, SATA-150
- OS: Win XP PRO SP1

Well, that's it.

Thanks a lot in advance for any hint / information !

It is PCIe so you will want the AGP version as your board won't support it. The edit: my bad the sapphire is the least expensive AGP I see off hand, I'll see if anyone has a better price than da egg today. Newegg, zipzoomfly, monarch, and excaliberpc are good places to shop.

And move to SP2 for XP because it is actually a good service pack worth having :)

There is no performance difference between AGP and PCI-e at the moment. This may change in the future, but as of right now, no difference. I have an X800XTPE for sale. Check my sig.

I can get an AIW x800xt for $340 new, I say keys should drop the price to say $300-350 range, maybe then someone would buy it.

It's not an XT munky. Its an XTPE with an ATI Silencer 4 rev.2 on it. With digital USB camera and a nice software bundle.

Still think I should drop the price? The only ATI card faster than this one is an X850XTPE. And only a smidge faster at that. 20MHz faster core and 30MHz faster memory. Almost negligible.

But its also not an AIW card, which can be had for 350. :p

Seriously, 400 is a very good deal for an X800 XTPE . . . unfortunately I don't have 400 to spend and it wouldn't be a very worthwhile upgrade from my 6800 GT. I considered though, to ease the installation headaches of my HDTV Wonder.

No, definately not worthwhile upgrade to a 6800GT.

PCI-E requires a PCI-E slot, something no doubt your mobo doesn't have. So your only option is the AGP one, otherwise you'd have to get an entirely new mobo.

If you're willing to wait, the R520 release (yes, it's a bit away) will drop current prices of the X800 cards. That may provide you a few more financially viable options.
