Why does no one make this? It's when you have a really big laptop that you start to really need as many weight reductions as you can get.
 
too niche of a market

ultrabooks are meant to be portable.. which means you give up some features to prioritize other features (no DVD drive to make it thinner. smaller battery or sealed battery to make it lighter....)

if someone needs/wants a large display and portable, chances are they need heavy performance as well (for gaming, photoshop/video rendering), which means a larger chassis for the CPU and cooling



you could also go with a very small laptop + portable USB-powered monitor

17-in is not always practical. Ever try to use one on an airline tray? 15-in seems to be the useful sweet spot for Ultras. Also, with such reduced thickness, the larger area would be more vulnerable to cracking due to backpack stowage, etc.
