I wish Sega could come back and make a new system.

The Sega console was great and I really liked my Dreamcast. Nintendo seems to be getting a lot of Sega business nowadays, even the original Sonics are available for the GameCube. I'm definately buying a Wii when they come out!

The Dreamcast was so ahead of its time, but was crushed under the marketing dollars of Sony's PS2.

Sega's own mishaps (32X, Saturn--I owned them both) and the lack of EA Sports games on the Dreamcast did more damage to Sega than the PS2, IMO.

So ahead of their time they basically took no anti-piracy measures when building the system, that was a big part of why the dreamcast wasn't successful. I know what you mean though about being ahead of it's time. I could never really get into the dreamcast as much as many people did, my first one broke pretty quick, my second one is broken now too i think, haven't played it in a while. Played Shenmue, Jet Grind Radio, Skies of Arcadia, Tennis 2K2...and lots of other games that were really great. I guess i should find out what's wrong with my DC.

dreamcast was actually the fastest selling system up until that point. PS2 sales blew it out of the water, and it was dropped very shortly thereafter.

It shows Sega at the beginning of Condemned - Criminal Origins. WTF's that mean? I thought they didn't even really exist anymore.

As a home console company, no. Arcade & third party software developer, yes.

Sega owned, still have a Genesis (modded with A/V out & S-Video, woo!) and a release day Dreamcast still going strong. Such a great system.

Why so they can support it for a few short year(s) and then completly flush it down the toilet at the height of its popularity?

Just because crackers were able to crack the Dreamcast doesn't mean it had no anti-piracy measures. The Dreamcast used GD-ROM, a gigabye CD. In order to rip a Dreamcast game, you would need a GD-ROM reader or hack your Dreamcast in order to rip it onto your PC. Either way, the common user was not going to be able to do this. Pretty much everyone downloaded their games. Also, the Dreamcast had some sort of boot loader protection that could detect copied discs. At first, you would have to use a Game Shark or boot CD in order to play downloaded games, but later groups were able to crack this and make self booting games.

Don't forget the Sega CD. The basically had a string of failures before the DC and they had lost the trust of the gaming masses. The hardcore fans came out and bought the DC on launch day, but it all went downhill from there. People like the blame the DC failure on piracy or Sony, but it was a combo of a lot more factors than that. Piracy, IMO, had very little to do with it.
