I wish Pizza Hut didn't change.

Please don't turn this into a pizza snob thread. I've eaten at Lombardi's, Grimaldi's, all the Chicago joints, etc.

Fiancee and I went to Pizza Hut last week. This is my first time over 15 years. I have fond memories of their delicious pizza and stacked topplings. It was good eats once in awhile. We sat down and pizza arrived- the supreme pan pizza. What the hell happened?

This isn't blinded by nostalgia. The quality of the pizza CHANGED. Gone are the mountains of toppings, it's hardly 'supreme', just eating dough everywhere. Cheese is markedly inferior if there were any.

It's evident that they actually changed their business model to cater to low low class. My fiancee commented it too. It's not so much our standards went up, but they CHANGED it to a crappier version.

It's not the same Pizza Hut as 15 years ago... God dammit.

it's a $10 pizza place they haven't exactly ever catered to the high-class specifically.

also for $10 pizza i'm not sure why you would expect out of this world pizza. it tastes fine for what it is - cheap chain pizza. and yes, it is nostalgia making you think it was amazing pizza 15 years ago.

I thought you were losing weight for a wedding.

regardless, yes. It has changed. However, last time I had it, it was still super greasy and the crust was still almost fried. YUM!

I got a "deep dish" from Domino's 2 weeks ago, even ordered extra cheese and it still had "bald" spots on it. I'm far from a picky eater and further from any food snob but this pizza was barely better than a frozen one, they've lost me as a customer, that's what I get for trying to cheap out, the local independent pizza place is very consistent, just more$$, lesson learned for me.

Just ate Pizza Hut the other day.

Got a large Meat Lover's and it was piled on with toppings and cheese...so much so that it was actually difficult to eat without making a big mess due to the size of the slices and the amount of toppings.

Of course, when I ordered it I went with pan crust and added extra cheese (which tasted awesome btw) and double pepperoni and sausage...and of course it also had the normal layer of ham and bacon.

I was thoroughly and happily satisfied...maybe you just went to a shitty Pizza Hut franchise.

I worked for these joints when I was in college in mid 1990s, the quality of cheese and amount of topping, the entire quality has taken a huge hit. places that sell $7 large carryout, cannot sell good pizzas, period. They all have become junk.

Yup, how can you not eat something for 15 years and then claim "its not nostalgia" lol of course it is
Youve probably experienced so much new food since then that your standards changed completely and you dont even remember what it was like anymore, but in your memory it is still just as good as it was back then

Happens with all sorts of things to me, especially art (being an artist in the making nowadays), I constantly look at things I thought were amazing a few years ago and I just cant believe I ever thought that looked good

With knowledge comes disappointment
Oh btw I love Pizza Hut so this isnt a hater post or anything, I cant stand snobs either

Yeah, chain pizza in general has gotten crappier over the years.

When I was a kid there was a Godfather's in my town that served absolutely delicious pizza heaped with melted cheese and toppings. The last time I had Godfather's it was terrible, not even half the quality.

I agree, the quality has gone down a lot at the chains. Even papajohns lowered the quality of their cheese. I worked for them when they were first becoming big and it used to be really good for a chain. Now its not better than pizzahut or any other cheap pizza.

I don't remember fifteen years ago well enough (hell, what doesn't taste good when you're 10 and going out lol) but I will definitely echo that chains depend more on the individual location than the chain itself. Given their employee turnover (I'm guessing it's high) it might even depend more on the guy making your food than anything else lol.

I guess I haven't had Pizza Hut pizza in a couple years but last time I had it I didn't think it really changed much at all from when I was a kid ~20 or so years ago. Might just depend on your local restaurant?

I still like Pizza Hut. We had the poutine pizza a few weeks back and it was delicious.

I worked there 5 (18 years old!) years ago at Cedar Point. The pizza was crap then. I have fond memories of my first few days of training where I was instructed to laddle a bunch of grease into the bottom of the pizza pans and then to let the dough proof in the grease.

I mean, I understood the practice because Pizza Hut has that iconic crunchy crust...but what you don't know is that they had us putting so much grease in the bottom of the pan that the grease would come over the sides of the dough as it proofed and what you had at the end was grease dipped pizza dough..

Pizza Hut supplies everything you need to make the pizzas, I think we were lading something 1 1/3 of a cup of grease in there for the largest pizzas. The pizzas with the most meat then were the Pepperoni Lovers because all we had was a picture to make the pizza look like and many of us just put pepperoni on the pizza until we couldn't see cheese anymore lol.

After it came out the oven, it slides neatly out of the pan with not much grease being left behind. Then, you have to watch as people sit at the tables eating that crap. Ugh...

I try to avoid Pizza Hut as much as possible, because it just tastes like grease.

the prices are pretty much the same as they were 15 years ago, so of course it's gone down hill.

Most of the "cheese" that chains use is no longer cheese...it is a substitute that has some cheese mixed in so they can call it a cheese topping.

most red lobster food is frozen.
all they do in the back is stick it in oven, or even the microwave

as for pizza, yeah but what do u expect when it costs less now than 15yrs ago?
and to cover for the inferior quality, they add a ton more salt!

i wonder which topping has the most salt content?

I had Pizza Hut for the first time in probably 10 years last week and found it to be exactly as I'd remembered. Lots of cheese, overall quite tasty, no problems at all. Certainly not the best pizza ever, but quite good for a chain.

Sounds like you just got a bad location.

I haven't noticed a difference. OP, you just had shittier taste 15 years ago. As another poster said Pizza Hut = grease. Grease tastes delicious. You were just a bigger fan last time.

ask her if a person who orders 6 toppings (ie: all the meats) gets less portion per topping than someone ordering 2 toppings (ie: pepperoni and sausage).

so in effect, the total weight of 6 toppings is the same as 2 toppings?
yet they charge you more for the 6 toppings pizza than the 2 topping?
