I wish people would stop giving steroids a bad rap

I'm putting my foot down on the bashing performance enhancing drugs are getting in the media or the internet.

Anytime I talk about them people will go on about how they enlarge hearts, hurt livers, and cause cancer. They've all heard from a friend who knew a guy who had a brother who had a heart attack at 40. They don't know there are hundreds of compounds each with dozens of different cycles each of which has different effects on the human body. They?re clueless.

Imagine explaining how to overclock in a thread and every other reply is "your cpu is going to EXPLODE." Steroids are one of the few topics where intelligent people will break down and debate like children (plenty of name calling).

The worst part is most people sincerely don?t want to learn anything about steroids. I could take the time to teach people, but they go to Google and grab the first article from a .gov site that says steroids = death and ask me to discredit it. Even if I do that they play ignorant or resort to clichés.

Steroids are medical drugs that if used properly could keep people active much later in their lives. Or people who were born without much testosterone wouldn?t have to have their growth stunted. There are many other benefits that don't include being a muscle freak. They can help anyone of any age (if) they are used properly and under the supervision of a medical doctor who specializes in their use (i.e. Balco).

Using steroids properly can be very complicated and if doctors could just guide people we wouldn't have near the misuse we have today. We wouldn't have a black market where new lifters are sold horse steroids instead of the pharm grade they paid for. We wouldn't have kids running cookie cutter cycles because they aren?t smart enough to adapt to their bodies needs.

I want people to stop treating steroids like they are only for 20 year olds who want to be Hercules. Stop going ?lol small balls, enlarged heart? when if you don?t know Deca Durabolin from Winstrol. These are drugs that if given proper time to develop could keep us from having to deteriorate as we grow older. Treat them with respect even if you choose to not use them.

No duh man. It's the abuse of steroids that everyone has a problem with. Using them to push your body to the limit is dangerous. 99.9 percent of the time when steroids come up it's about something illegal or improper.

Amplifier, I probably know more about steroids then you will probably ever know, and I find your arguement wrong.

Steroids got a bad rap from the media (lots of things do), because athletes were taking them when they were specifically banned in that sport, so they cheated to get ahead. If you want to argue the ban of steroids then that's a whole new topic. Also BALCO knowingly gave steroids to athletes telling them to take them, when they knew they were banned.

BTW for the cases you mentioned (i.e. prolonged puberty etc), doctors do prescribe them for such reasons, and are phramacuetical grade. So in whole, I fail to see the point of your whole enitre thread.

My point is that steroids should be discussed intelligently and not treated dismissively based on stereotypes.

I agree, except you don't try and reason with someone by telling them they know nothing, you give them information.

The odds of a surgeon finding the time to post regularly on atot are slim, but I'll humor you because doctors do make blanket claims like this.

"because of steroids" needs to be changed to "because of steroids misuse." Do you know which cycle he was on? How his body chemistry reacted to each cycle? How hard he was lifting each day? See where this is going?

I was given steriods last night when I had to go to the emergency room for some sort of full body allergic reaction... no idea what caused it though.

corticosteroids, an immune suppressant. Quite different from the anabolic steroids the OP is attempting to discuss.

I can see how I could come off that way. But if I open this up to general steroid questions I may get a half dozen, each of which could take 15-30 minutes to properly answer :)

Yeah I'm on those "corticosteroids" right now because of an autoimmune disorder of mine. Some people have told me they are the same stuff as the bodybuilding steriods, but I don't think they know what they are talking about. They do make you gain weight though.

Absolutely not, they are completely different than AAS, except for the name of steroid as a classification. Hell, technically Vitamin C is a steroid.
