Actually, it just matters how skilled/knowledgable the cook/chef is. Im not a chef, but i can easily tell the difference between rare, medium rare, medium, and well.

To OP, WTH!? Good on finally seeing the light, or blood. :)

Why did you take a date to a nice French restaurant if you don't care about food? If it's the company, take her to TGI Friday's. If it's to impress her, this won't last long.

I like good food, who doesn't?
Just because in the past I liked it differently from how you like it doesn't mean I don't like food.

Welcome to the world of flavor.

To each his own, but I'm still trying to get a couple of my coworkers to just give it a try at least once. Every time we go out to a steak place for lunch they ALWAYS get well done. What a waste of a perfectly good cut of meat.

Of course? Because undercooked meat is somehow worse for you than cooked meat?

I've tried it a few times. Well done is still better.

I'm just fine, thanks. It's not my fault you've never had a well done steak cooked by someone who knows how to do it without ruining it. Contrary to popular opinion, it IS possible for it to be well done, yet still be tender and juicy.

Just do it, you won't regret it.

Worst case scenario, you could send it back and politely admit to ordering it medium, say you made a mistake, and ask them to cook it a bit more.

To the OP: I could have told you. In fact, I think I did in a previous steak thread. :p

I like my steaks to be well-seared at high heat with thick stripe of medium-rare in the middle. If it wasn't for the fact that I insist the steak be warm all the way through, I'd probably order it rare (but I just don't like a cool center). Plus, I want all the fatty goodness to be thoroughly melted into the meat... mmmm...

As someone said here, "Pink but not bloody". At least, not too bloody, although Sirloin is a somewhat dry meat and as such should be cooked a little less than the norm.

I just had yesterday a 50oz or so Porterhouse and LOTS of good alcohol, all in the best (IMHO) restaurant I know. Specializes in meat. 120$ was the damage, where you could get a perfectly good meal for 20-30$. But hey, that was worth it...

Then I caught a ride with a friend in his Honda S2000 (2.0, not the US 2.2), top down - That glorious engine note only gets better when you're well drunk and fed. FTW. That's an evening I won't be forgetting for a while...

About time. If you want to eat leather then eat leather. If you want meat the juices are what makes it good.

The longer you cook it, the less juicy and tender it will be, period. What some of you seem to think is that this your opinion, this is not opinion - its a fact, non-negotiable.

Yes you can still have a juicy tender steak after being cooked well done by the right person, but that same person cooking the same steak medium well would have ended up with an even juicier and more tender steak.

Just face it - its really quite simple, your a pvssy ;)

The first year of the S2000 was a 2.0 liter engine, whether it was a US car or not. When they switched to the 2.2, it was a change made in the US and abroad.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good prime rib/ribeye steak myself.

Ribeye = flavor (mmm.... melted fatty goodness).

Filet/tenderloin = extremely tender but little flavor.

This is why I look down my nose at filet snobs. Filet is for people who want to look like they love steak. Ribeye and Strip are for people who really do love steak (Porterhouse/T-Bone is okay because you get both the Strip and the filet).

Go to a good steak place, order a good steak.

Go to a good seafood place, order some good seafood.

Go to a good "other food" place, order some good "other food".

Follow these simple rules and you will have minimal problems like this in the future.
