I'm starting this because of a ridiculous reason, but I believe it is for a good cause. I personally believe positively impacting others will result in a positive impact for you as well, but that's not relevant. This may sound like common sense, but it is clear not everyone puts it to practice. Even re-iterating can help bring you forward.
The rules are extremely simple, and there are 3 of them. You can apply this to any idea / product / desire / want / you name it. I am not unique in identifying these rules, I'm simply restating what I've learned.
Rule 1:
Set goals. This is the only way to identify progress, and also completion. Be very specific. You can start off general, but you should narrow the goal quickly.
Rule 2:
Identify any actions that brought you closer or further away from that goal. Avoid repeating those that take you further away, imitate or improve those that bring you closer. Don't be afraid to try something you haven't tried.
And rule 3:
Don't have lots of goals. You're better to focus on one at a time and knock them out, and also they should be in a progressive order if they are related.
That's it. You can apply these rules to just about anything (I can't think of something where they don't apply, but feel free to challenge me). You should be able to identify success and failure very quickly by putting these to practice.
Be positive!
