i swear I have never seen so many people in my life! I’m not into the brick & mortar shopping experience but we needed things for the new place. The store was huge, help was almost non existent & forget about going to the flea market! Just take me home, Amazon has my back :)

You poor poor soul. After a few nights of crying yourself to sleep, I hope that the memories of that shitshow will subside.

Every once in a while, it does your heart good too see so many people worse off than you. Hang in there.

I've posted this pic before showing the line to check out around 11PM from a Wal-Mart.

I've been going to the I-80 Flea Market at Tinley Park almost every Sunday.
People selling most of the time are junk, I rarely find anything worth buying.

Self checkouts are your friends.

Went to Walmart on Sunday afternoon. Even Self checkout had a decent line. Before they put Self Checkout in it wasn't possible to check out there, the line would be too long.

I never could figure out why Wal-Mart would have 20+ checkout lanes and only have 1-2 ever manned.

Considering all the things you have been going through for the last few years, getting out and about is really good for you, health wise.

The stress of going out might be difficult, but perhaps little excursions here and there will be beneficial.

I hope your progress improves for you from now on.

:)

Because they can.

That and the plans they use to build the stores are more important then worrying if that is the actual number needed all the time in that store.

Between that and you have to assume they limit the schedule based on last year or such.

You can always be one of those people and try checking out at the other locations like electronics that are not clearly designed for it but still do it. :p

Starting around 9-10pm, Walmart shuts all but like 1-2 lanes so you wind up standing in line for 10x as long even though there are much fewer people in the store. Makes you wonder how the F Walmart became such a huge company.

Because they know 99 out of 100 customers won't leave because the majority of people who go to Walmart are morons where time is of no value in their life.

Unless you are looking for a job as a cashier. Personally, as someone who had a second job as a cashier for many years, I detest them and refuse to use them. I especially hate the way one of our local stores did away with all their express lanes when they instituted self checkout, forcing you to either use self check out or wait in line behind people with fifty items in their cart.

They are great for a dozen items or less and if you choose not to use them it's on you.

People want cheaper prices and want to spend as little times in stores at times so it's a good thing as some jobs get phased out over time so adapt or suffer. :D

Plus you still need a person to work them so it's not a huge issue usually.

Got to assume they have to pay extra past those hours so it's probably cheaper to keep as few open as possible.

The trick with walmart, and well pretty much every other big store, is to absolutely avoid weekends. Thankfully I have a shift work job where I get lot of time off in the week, so I always do my shopping in the week. Preferably during normal working hours because most people are at work. If you wait till after 5 then it's going to be almost as bad as the weekend.

I miss when we had a 24hr grocery store, as I used to do my groceries late at night when there was not a single soul in there. I guess that's why they arn't open that late anymore. Our walmart used to be open till midnight, which was nice too for if I needed something there I'd just go later at night.

At least Shopper's Drug Mart is open 24/7. They have basic groceries and other commodity items there so if I'm stuck they're usually a good bet depending what I need. I needed distilled water for my UPS batteries a while back and I was able to get some there.

Your compassion is overwhelming. I also would bet that most of the cost savings goes to increase corporate profits, not to reduce prices to the consumer.

Of course it does just like any other service that uses similar devices.

The problem is it's a service people wanted and use just like atm's or online shopping as it can kill jobs but it can also create them in other area's much like the person running the self checkouts or the people that work on them.

I have worked as a cashier myself a long time ago and I have no problem whatsoever using them for a quick checkout if I am in a hurry or such.

I for one welcome our robot overlords. ;)

The bigger issue you should have is people want the cheapest prices yet expect great customer service such as a ton of check outs open as that does not work so either keep shopping at walmart or pay more for a better service as you see in some of the more expensive stores.

Like, you mean, converting retail sales jobs, into Amazon warehouse slave laborers?

What were those things called, in HG Wells Time Machine, when he went into the future? What humans had turned into? Yeah, something like that, I guess.

In an America were the poor get poorer, more and more are willing to wait for better savings. Even paltry ones. Maybe if incomes had kept pace for the last few decades it wouldn't be worth their time. But in this day and age, it is. :(

Hey... if they can get me my stuff I ordered so fast and even faster once the drones start delivering it then I will be cracking the whip to keep them busy.

They’ll probably all be open on Black Friday, dawg. Those crowds can get so friggin hostile that there is a good chance that a full scale riot would break out if you made those people wait an hour for their $300 “doorbuster” no-name brand HDTV.

Boo hoo... And Walmart killed off mom and pop shops. You can't defend Walmart for cashier jobs when Walmart was the one who killed tons of jobs itself.
