I went to the Gun range for the first time today!

if you are shooting low, it is most likely caused by you shooting with your whole hand or forarm, and not just your trigger finger.

Maybe you're shooting low because you're pushing in to counter the effects of the recoil? What happened when you switched guns?

either low..or waaaaaaaaay off.

Beyond toy guns and paintball my experience is limited to one afternoon of skeet shooting with a 12 gauge as a kid. Damn fun. Guns are fun and I know that's a bad thing to say but guns are fun.

I have a friend who has a new glock and I want him to take me to the firing range but it's not happened yet! Don't tell mrsskoorb!!

Go to a local gunshow and buy ammo. You can get 1000 rounds of brass 9mm (not the steel Soviet crap) for like $50....

EDIT: 600 rounds each?!?!?! WTF! How could you shoot 600 rounds a piece through a 6 shot .357 and a max 15 shot 9mm? YOu must've been there all day!

I wouldn't think so. When I go to the range by myself, I typically shoot 150 or so rounds, always within 20-30 minutes. I have 2 17-round magazines and two 10-round ones for my Glock 17, but generally do not fill them to capacity (it is really tough getting in the last bullet, and I see no reason to compress the magazine springs that much for casual shooting at the range).

where can I get cheap ammO?

I buy my range ammo at Wal-Mart. You can get a 100 pack of Winchester 9mm for $10.96. As someone mentioned above, it is even cheaper at gun shows sometimes. My favorite inexpensive range ammo is Fiocchi, which is hotter than average, but I have never seen it cheap in bulk.

dang that is cheap!! we got american eagle 9mm for $8 for 50.

anywhere else? What if we buy bulk? Costco? hehehe

Pull the trigger straight back, if you don't you'll move it slightly left or right and you'll never hit anything. Also, don't anticipate the shot and jerk forward.

Next time you go, have your friend load the 357 with 5 rounds. See what happens when you fire the empty chamber.

EDIT: Obviously, your friend shouldn't tell you which one is the empty.

how many "unloaded" guns have you read about that have killed people.

I can think of one. The guy had went to the house with the sole intent to rape one of the daughters and kill the other daughter and the mom. He killed the mom by beating her with the pistol. He beat the woman so hard it broke the gun. The sad part is that they actually had to think about whether to give him the death penalty.I can't remember if he actually got it. I will try to find a news article about it.

Cheap Ammo. Try the Sellier & Bellot and CCI/Speer ammo. Good quality, very cheap. For extremely cheap ammo hit the gun show. It will be of lower quality though.

I've been to a firing range twice, and a rifle range many times (but they were weak .22's in Boy Scouts). I had some pretty crappy aim as well (especially with the huge magnum I tried), but then again I was pretty young at the time (like 12-13).
