Now, heres my quandry. I'm going to start looking for locations this week and I think I've got a good idea on what I need to do.

My question to the bar frequenting folk here (minedo, i'm looking at you)....

What makes your favorite drinking establishment your favorite and why?

I've narrowed down the name to: Pat's, named after my irish friend Pat, who drinks so much he's going to keep me in business for my inevitably rough first two years or The best damn pet shop in town.

Your thoughts?

IMO the order of importance:

1) location
2) atmosphere
3) price of beer
4) amount of sitting
5) food

if you're going to have food and table then the staff has to be likeable

atmosphere helps

I have a few local favorites and all are very different

One is a backwoods little bar - the lady bartender is the greatest but all they have is like 6 stools, a pool table and a julebox. Its just a fun time when i go up with my friends.

my other favorite is a run of the mill sports bar but its really big, has great weekend entertainment, 2 pool tables and is just a fun atmosphere

my third favorite is more of an upscale bar/upstairs restaurant. Great food, good expensive beer, great entertainment, nice place to sit and relax and socialize.

maybe some of that info helps ya

1. good food

3. lots of games - my favorite bar has pinball, air hockey, basketball, ping pong, and plenty of pool tables.

You need to have the best prices and the best environment. Set up tables and chairs that are comfortable.

Have gimmick nights. Have cheaper beers on some nights, or have a ladies' night where their drinks are half off or something. If you can bring a large female population to your bar, then you can get guys in there that will be willing to pay any price for drinks.

I have 2 places i like to go to.
one is:
1)cheap
2)has plenty to do (darts, pool table, foosball, shuffleboard)
3)does not have loud blaring music all the time


the other place
1) has like 12 drafts on tap and rotates 5 of them every few months
2) has great food
3) decent prices
4) great service
5) no loud blaring music


i like to go to places i can talk to the people i am out with and do something while i drink. also make sure you have a good bartender that knows his/her crap.

i hate bars where everyone crowds around the bar and i hafta wait an hour to get a drink. im gonna design my own bar one day.

God yes, like Wild Wings (here in Greenville) last night, it's fvcking horrendous. Though by the time we got to that bar it was one of my other friends turn to open a tab so they kept going up to get drinks for us.

I hate bars normally, but last night I actually had fun because these were good friends I haven't hung out with in years, so it didn't matter where we were we had a blast.

Plus I ended up taking home some chick who was half Alaskan and half Hawaiian :D! The best part was my ex g/f, who had told me she'd call me about three days ago to talk and try to work out our problems but never called, decided to call as this chick was in my lap sucking on my neck at 2am! Timing could NOT have been better.

Needless to say the ex is more interested in talking now that she realizes I'm not sitting at home pining for her, but I don't care anymore. Crazy women suck and I cut them lose like State Farm does insurance defrauders.

BTW, PAB, you've lost all your cred here. If anyone here reading this actually believes anything this fool says then they should use the search function and read up on his self ownage.
