I wasn't really impressed with the "1:1" mapping wii mote

I was most interested in the sword fighting...but after viewing the video, I'm left a bit wanting more still.

I was expecting 1:1 mapping sword combat, and essentially it appeared that you would set up your sword to the place where you would want to attack (i.e., position your sword at a certain angle roughly and then swing with force and it will then attack roughly in the direction you were intending, not really you swinging the sword)

I was most impressed with the demo of the frisbee toss. It appeared to replicate the woman's hand movements quite well, but still, these are Nintendo reps, so they know how to make it look "1:1".

Thoughts:

1. 1:1 mapping was only replicated with very slow movements. Slow movements were either intended to ensure the audience could capture these entirely or intended to ensure the accelorometers were not fooled with being forced to read and interpret fast movements.

2. There doesn't appear to be any system for triangulation, thus, it does not know where you are in a 3d space, it just guesses based off of gyro tilt and force.

3. Nevertheless, it appears you are able to make very precise controls not possible with prior remote. I was very impressed with the Nintendo rep's ability to shred a stock piece of wood into a fine point, but again, you probably only get around 8 angles of attack max so you only have to be precise enough to ensure you are aiming at the angle you want (I.E., ensure sword is at 30-50 degrees and apply force to ensure your sword makes a pre-rendered 45 degree slash.

4. This appears to just be a beefed up new wii-mote, no kind of new tech, so I'm not getting my hopes up with 1:1 true mapping.

5. Demo's proved that lightsaber combat to some realistic degree is possible. That is essentially the main selling point of such control I would assume?

6. Regardless of my doubts, they have made leaps on making wii-mote control more intuitive which is the only selling point to this system.

Conclusions:

1. The nintendo reps did not have to "calibrate" the wii-mote. If this was true 1:1 mapping, I would think you would have to re-map the controls or re-set it when the controls get out of whack?

2. I've given up on a sword/lighstaber game ever coming out. The controls will probably only work better for golf/boxing now
