I was MAJORLY screwed by my partner for a project.

Here's the story,
I'm taking a psychology class (psych 132ac) for one of my breadth requirements here at Berkeley. Anyways, we had this HUGE research project that was assigned in the begining of the semester. It basically involved coming up with a hypothesis concerning community psychology, going out into the community and collecting qualitative/quantitative data, writing up a 20 page report (10 pages per person), etc. Anyways, it's worth 30% of our grade, and my partner and I decided to do a study on the homeless population at Berkeley. That's the background info.

Anyways, about a month before the project is due, my partner stops coming to class. So naturally, I called her, and she said she decided to change the topic to a study on her dance troup. She said she already collected all the necessary data, and we just had to start writing the paper. I was fine with it, though I wished she had told me about her change of plans. Anyways, she still doesn't show up to class and she stops picking up the phone, so about two weeks before the paper is due, I start calling her and emailing her like everyday trying to find her. I'm starting to get majorly worried, 'cuz we haven't written ANY of the paper yet. Being the procrastinator I am, it finally comes down to the last weekend before it's due (due on Monday). So I call again on Friday, and I actually get in touch with her. She picks up the phone thinking it's her friend and goes, &quot;hello? is this kara?&quot; . . .and then I reply, &quot;Hey- it's me dennis.&quot; <CLICK> She hangs up? I was like- what the?!?! So I call back, and I get her answering machine. I keep calling her, and no response. I email her, no response. So I basically figured- she dropped the class . . . and never bothered to tell me. Not only that- she's avoiding me, 'cuz she knows she screwed me over.

So here I am, in the last weekend before it was due. I had to collect all my data on Saturday, and write up a 10 page report on Sunday. I was behind the computer for 18 hours, just typing, analyzing, researching. I went to class, gave my oral presentation which was TOTAL impromptu, turned in my paper . . .and left. My professor and GSI's were really proud that I actually pulled through regardless of the fact that my partner royally screwed me <I email them about it, too>. They thought I would drop the class or something too . . .but I pulled through.

I'm not really that pissed about it 'cuz it's done and over with now. But I can't believe my partner. She seemed like such a nice person too . . . If I ever see her on campus . . . I dunno. She's graduating- so she probably didn't care. She didn't bother to email me, call me, tell the professor or anything that she had dropped the course. Some people . . .

my rant. :)

This is where you preface your cover page with a little note...&quot;I <name here> completed this essay entirely on my own and received NO help on any aspect from my 'Partner'&quot;

Good job for you, it will pay off if not in the class then in life. For her, dont worry, she will get whats coming to her eventually. That kind of lack of responsibility will lead to a painful way to live.

Sounds familiar. I did the almost exact same thing in Small Business Management when I was in school.

Thats what the whole partner/team crap is about. Teach all the irreponsible people out there to work with a few responsible leaders. That way they can get partial credit for work they didn't do. Hopefully your deadbeat partner won't get credit for your work.

You'd think if the idiot dropped the class the admin would have informed the instructor.
Good job grabbing the bit between your teeth and getting it done.

I had a similar situation in a management class.
We we're split into 3 person teams. We we're to do a complete and thorough business plan down to the most minute detail. The team decided we'd like to build a golf course/club. I got assigned the design and constuction of the course, the second person did the clubhouse and associate amenities, and the third was to do the financing. The course design and clubhouse plans/costs got done down to the last blade of grass and last nut and bolt with four weeks to spare. The idiot in charge of the financing/projections screwed up the reports and we all got C's for the project. The other two of us asked him repeatedly if he needed any help, nope he's got it under control. Yeah, right.

Group projects are always an absolute joke. I don't understand why schools/colleges insist on having them. We never learn to &quot;work together&quot;, we always divide up the work and hope the others do their share.

What a BI_TCH man. Some people don't look at helping others. Two years ago I was failing a chemistry class so I could have just decided to fail the lab. I decided that I didn't want to screw my lab group over so I continued to do the work for the lab. I just can't believe some people. I mean if she wanted to do that all she had to do was tell you early on then you could have been prepared for it.

Stupid selfish people

Sorry to hear that she dropped you like that but YOU are the one who waited until the last weekend to start yourself. You should have known you were going to fly solo on this two weeks ago....

<< Anyways, she still doesn't show up to class and she stops picking up the phone, so about two weeks before the paper is due, >>

Not coming down hard on you but it's hard to feel for you when you painted yourself into a corner. You should make sure that you note on the paper that you did 100% of this as CRT1530 stated.

Good job on pulling through. :)The least she could have done was to tell you she dropped the class to give you time to do what needed to be done.

One more thing, don't procrastinate. You could have avoided a lot of stress had you gone ahead and started on your own before the last minute ;)

all i have to say on this whole part is: the girl is one big bitch (sorry, if I offend anyone) but come on now. That is just not right. I would slap her silly the next time I see her. I would have told that biiiiiitch off in the answering machine say how much of a biiiiiatch she is... dude, thats morally wrong. Thank god you pulled through, way to go, but that girl will pay either way.

danny~!

Senior design in engineering is taken very seriously. We spend 2 semesters working on the same project. Each week a report must be given on what we had accomplished that week. Next semester I will be in the class.
