and tuned into a news talk show and they were discussing the president's speech. It seemed alot of middle eastern people were calling in and expressing their support and wondering why we are waiting so long to begin an invasion and implement a change. Several Iraq immigrants in particular called in and their only concern was that the people of Iraq have a say in the way the new government is set up.

I know there have been alot of threads about the impending war, the pros and cons, but i would like to know if anyone here is from that region and have family there, or have close close freinds. i would be interested to know what they or their family there think about this whole thing.

I don't know, but I'm sure that it's a bit frightening for them to wonder what will happen.

Yeah, our local news channel interviewed an iraqi-american the other day and he said nobody over there likes sadam and they are just afraid of him.. most iraqi's dream for the day someone comes in and overthrows the government ..

BTW, i thought this was funny (except for anti-war buffs)

har har!

A good family friend is from Iraq. A couple of years ago she and one of her brothers went on a long journey to get their old-aged mom out of the country for medical care (UN sanctions drove the decent Iraqi medical system of the 70s and 80s into the ground... not that it bothers Saddam who get's the best med. treatment available). They drove in because there were no airlines going to the region of Iraq where their mom lived (UN no Fly zone).

Our friend is not all to happy about the situation as you can imagine and to put her opinion bluntley: Kick Saddam Out.
