My landlord asked me today if I was interested in the position. No pay but I get 80% off my rent. Its only 8 days a month.

I can still work my regular job so I can save more money.

I told him I will give it a go and see what happens. I will be starting at the beginning of June.

:awe:

So you're working 8 full days for 500 bucks? Basically 7.5 dollars an hour?

So you save about $500? 8 8-hour days is 64 hours. 500/64 = $7.80/hour.

I probably wouldn't do it, but then again I make a hell of alot more than $8/hour. If $8/hour + giving up 8 more days of your time is worth it, then I would go for it.

But it is probably 8 "On-Call" days. Really what does a building manager do except take calls from pissed off tennants.

Have fun unclogging old peoples toilets!!

Seriously, what job duties does this position entail? Won't you be on call as well? Could the landlord be pocketing the other 20%?

That's not so bad then. In that case, it sounds like the landlord doesn't want to deal with shit on the weekends, and wants someone else to be on call on the weekends.

Although if that were the case, you would pretty much be giving up doing anything or going anywhere on the weekends. Not sure I would ever do that.

That's what I was thinking.

How big is the building you live in? If this is like a 2-3 apartment house, then it should be cake. How often does stuff break or need attention? But if we're talking something sizable like a 25-30 unit apartment complex or larger then you might have significantly more "odd jobs" around the place that your landlord is intending you do.

$8 an hour to give up the remaining 25% of free days I have a month? No thanks. That's just me. If I was getting 80% off a $2000 rent, maybe. But in that situation, I'd pass for the headache.

But I'm married and with a family so my time/priorities are different.

8 8 hour days or 8 24 hour on-call days?

I'm sure the tenants will be respectful enough to leave you alone on your days off, right? ;)

I used to manage several apartment complexes. Depending on the size of the building and the staff, a manager oversees supers and maintenance crews, leasing agents, city/state/fed inspections, etc. It's not as easy as it may seem.

I am single and live by myself.

8 days on call is not that bad. Duties are limited to things like showing apts to prospective tenants, general cleaning, some small repairs, paper work and related non-serious stuff. The days are during the week and Saturdays for now. Basically its to give time off for the Landlord.

You seem set on doing it. Good luck. And hopefully not too many
clogged sinks and toilets. :sneaky:

Do you get to sleep with the hot young female tenants that can't make their rent?

If I was remotely handy and had rent I'd do it. If on call was too active I'd bow out. Could be ez discount.

Why is everyone beating OP down? If he's happy about it and can save some money, good for him. Let us know what you actually end up doing Iron.

Because he hasn't posted pics of the hot girls by the pool.

Otherwise, agree.
