My wifes uncle came to visit us a few weeks ago. Anyway he forgot his watch and we found it after he left. We told him that we have it and he said he would pick it up in a few weeks when he comes back out to Denver. Well this morning my wife was talking to him on IM and he leaves for Iraq again this coming monday to do more contract work. He told my wife that i could have it and he will get another one while he is over there. :D

I found a excellent site that tells if a rolex is real or not and so far it has passed the test. the only thing i have left to do to confirm its real is to remove the crown (i dont know how) and get the serial number.

fake or not website

here i found a match for the watch on a website here is the site that shows my watch. on the left pick "Men's Rolex Date Just" then go 7 rows down and its the third from the left ITEM# MDJ27.

Its fake. :(. the watch place i took it to, said its a very good fake. Oh well. it still looks great on my wrist.

If he parted with it that easily (and plans to get another while there) I would seriously doubt it's authenticity.

DonVito is a watch freak, he'll probably show up shortly.

I thought the same, but he is making an obscene amount of money doing contract work in Kuwait and Iraq.

Good i hope DonVito can tell me how to get the crown off and get the serial number. that would comfirm it.

You looking to sell it? If not, does it really matter if it's real or not? If you can't tell with a casual glance that it's fake then who cares?

The serial number isn't under the crown, it is either under the 6 lug or 12 lug cover, you have to remove the bracelet. Also this isn't the acid test for discerning a fake, some are pretty good and many of the numbers are very close to authentic.

If you had a few pics of it I might be able to tell, but otherwise I would be guessing. The first thing I would do is check to see if it is an "automatic" model where you have to wind it, next I would "sift" it in my hand as you would twirl a glass of wine and try to listen to the rotor, most fakes have cheap automatic movements with loud rotors, on a real Rolex the winding should be silent. See if you can find authentic pics and compare what you have against them....good luck and congrats.

Edit: you might or might not want to bring it to a dealer to have it looked at, most of them will be able to tell if it is a bad fake or not but if it is a good fake then they might not know, don't send it to Rolex as they will keep it if it is a fake. I have a hard time with taking things I am unsure of to a Jeweler as I feel like an idiot if it were fake. Post pics if you can.

Double Edit: The one linked in that picture is pretty beat up and I believe pieced together, at least the bracelet endlinks are not authentic....unfortunately that model is one of the most faked as it is one of the most popular...here is a link to a friend of mine who is selling the same watch only newer.

thanks. the site i listed above list the "wine glass twirl thing" and i can not hear it at all. It has been sitting in my wifes jewelry box for the last two weeks when he left and it had since stopped. by chance i shook it twice and the second hand started moving. according to that site i found that is another test, it it starts movement after two test it indicated that it is real.

I will take some pics of it tonight and post them for you to look at.

This is a pic of the watch i f...ke what i have on now.
