4 cars involved w/ the first 3 at a full stop at a red light. (I'm car two)
-police documented the case and gave us all insurance/driver info (They don't do police reports anymore according the the officer)

4-------3------2-------1 (bunch of other cars) |red light

-Car 4 does not stop at all. No skid marks and I didn't hear tires whining.
-Domino effect.
-I made a scratch on car #1 thats about it.

Are we liable for the cars we hit because of car #4? Or does car #4 pay for everything?

If it's under normal circumstances, Car 4 winds up paying for everything in the end. Car 1 may wind up trying to get money out of you, but your insurance will handle it and go after Car #4.

good question!!

common sense would say that car 4 pushed the rest of the cars into each other, so the driver is responsible. but when it comes to ppl and insurance companies... common sense hardly ever applies.

Pictures of the accident where taken and for the sake of the other parties I will not post them up. I made sure I knew exactly what damage was done to car #1 and it was very minimal. I just hope that the driver does not try to pull anything shady. I'm just gland everyone is ok but I really do not know what car #4 was doing.

Perfect World:

Car 4 admits fault and pays for everything, even that new plasma screen TV that was in your trunk at the time of the accident.

Real World:
Whoever's insurance that has the wimpiest people working as claims adjusters pays for everything.

if car #4 has a good insurance his company will find a way to make yours pay for car 1...car 3 to pay for car 2 and for him to only have to pay for car 3...all on the premis that you were all too close together and if you followed the "rules of the road" car 3 should have been stopped far enough behind that something like this couldnt have happend, and same goes for you....but chances are either car 3 or your insuance will have a good enough company that they wotn let that happen...

I have State Farm Insurnace and my parents have been with them for over 15 years and hopefully I will not take any fault in this collision...especially after they see that the front half of car #4 gone.

I have a clean 8 years of driving so I'm not that young with full coverage insurance. In the years my parents had them, they treated them well. So I am hopeful they won't screw me over.

skimming posts again? :p

Dang it, I looked at it like 3 times and didn't see that... he did edit after I posted though, maybe that's what he changed. :p

Anyway, I hope car 4 has to pay for all of it, since they caused all of the damage in the accident.
