My dad found a advertisement in the newspaper for this place called EdNet about computer certifications. I called them up and went in, i scored high on the test they gave me. She said I was smarter than most of the people that come in, I took cisco class last year in High school. I want to do the MSCE class along with my high school. The classes would be in the afternoon at 1p.m.-6p.m. and I get out of HS at 12:36 and I would have to do homework and studing after class. She said it would cost about 6K and she wanted to get me started next week. This is the only thing that actually put a spark in my head, they garentee finding you a IT job afterwards. I think this would be a great start in my career. What do you guys believe?

well, technically you are supposed to go that route for an MCSE, but there is no need.

dude she showed me the scores of the last two people that left, they didn't score even close to me. She took off $1K off the price for the "boot camp" class, she said it wouldn't help me much because I knew my sh1t.

don't waste your money. there is no easy way into the IT field. Take your lumps, go to college, get a degree then get a job.

as to that Guarantee, look at it again, it's BS. I know, i sold this stuff for about 2 years. trust me, it's a scam. they will not get you a job.

My advice if you REALLY want to learn the MCSE info... buy the books and study on your own.

Just having an MCSE these days is not that special. Those bootcamps crank-out too many morons, and companies have learned that lesson the hard way.-(no offence to you, but it is a fact)

You will get twice the respect if you self-study for the MCSE, rather than if they find out you went to a bootcamp class.

That is a good deal, get it in WRITING!

Don't believe the hype. They'll tell you anything to get you to hand over that amount of money. I have a college degree and just finished my MCSE in Win2K, did it at a University because my employer paid for it. It took me less than 5 minutes to do the entry test, any fool could pass it and think they are the right material - The college will tell you you're hot stuff and can make big bucks because they want your money. As far as the IT job guarantee goes, there are plenty of crappy, low paid IT jobs out there that you don't need an MCSE for.

If you are that keen on doing the MCSE, first buy a networking book for $20, read it and see if you're still interested, then consider studying on your own, spend the money (a lot less than $6K!) on some PCs and network them together. You won't get much practical experience on that course, and thats what really counts in the real world.

There were 20 people in my class, each paid around $9K (the ones who stuck it out to the end). Out of those 20, I only know of 4 of us that got the MCSE, the rest only have a few tests passed or gave up - They still have all those student loans to pay back.

So I guess what I am saying is, think carefully, don't rush in, and consider doing it on your own. There are a ton of resources out there and if you enjoy it and have the determination you will succeed.

It's only overpriced by about 5.5 k...

School is a joke, pick up some books and get you some cheapy POS computers to play with.

6 grand for finding a help desk job paying 12 an hour...I pass. I hear that crap on the radio all the time. They have one that they play on 97.5 with "homeboys" that is so degrading...talking in ebonics and everything...:

"want to get paid 50 G's?...then go to such and such"
"No money down and all it costs is a couple of bucks a day <for the rest of your life>"

i think you've no idea what you are talking about.

if you get into one of the top-tier universities, not second rated ones, companies will beg you to work for them. Hell they don't even care about GPA because if you can get into it, you are smart enough. And that's what Fortune 500 companies want, smart people. It doesn't matter what you know, they can always train you for long term investment.

And sammyson, what do you base this AMAZING analysis on? I sold Computer training, specifically MCSE courses for 2 years. I saw many people getting screwed. Of the 50 or so MCSE's I saw finish their programs mb 1 or 2 got jobs SPECIFICALLY because of the MCSE and not due to their own personaly work experience.
